Got a new personal best yesterday. 3-1/2 pounds. Boy he’s ugly! One eye bugged out from disease, and the other put out long ago, probably by a fish hook. Oh well, he liked my crankbait and I liked him for hitting it!

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

Thumbs down for rock bass here.  They will never be a real bass.

That quote is spot on.

They were great for the kid, though.

Alright, alright.  I relent.  Can't argue that one.

Good response @IcatchDinks.  Well played.

Same spot similar results. Didn't weigh any but biggest was probably 4.5. All your hopes and dreams come true when you wade fish, apparently. All my favorite places to stand are underwater, and my alternate spot has campers on it. So I guess I'm getting into the water these days. Don't mind the snakes as much as I mind the hog tracks. I don't think I got hit by a bass under 2lb today, if I had landed all the bass that hit I would likely be posting 15 to 20lb in here. I caught four between 2-4.5, one of them caught me with three points of my treble hook. I also had a duo lock bend out on me, losing a 3.5 ish bass and my favorite walking bait in the process. I launched my favorite backup into the lower stratosphere a few casts later. A happy reunion was made later on. Last fish dove into the weeds about 40 yards out and I put my gear to the test winching it out. What a thrilling morning.

I love wading too. I also love seeing the chef bassing with joy.

I can't imagine catching 4+ and not weighing it. We are in different classes of angler, my friend. What a great trip!

Great day fishing on the Saginaw bay out of Quinacassee MIchigan.   Haven’t had a day like this in a long time. With working and the kids this is only my 3rd time out all year.  The previous 2 times wasn’t all that great.

it was a little windy so I mainly stayed in the quinacassee river and only ventured out into the Saginaw bay  briefly. Averaged 2.5 lbs for the day on fish caught.  I caught numerous fish in the same general areas a couple different times.  it was actually very amazing.  I believe, I boated 12-15 total plus a good sized dog fish caught 2-3 3 lbs bass.  most fish were caught in 3-4 ft water

I started fishing with googan summer craw colored craw t-rigged.  I got hit right of the bat but, they kept short striking.  thinking that I needed to make an adjustment I tied on  GP zman trd with ned head which, caught the majority of my fish. 2nd most caught came off a rapala OG tiny 4 in perch.  I used that lure to pull 3-4 fish out of the same boat dock.

great thing sbout being on days again is i can start fishing early and get off the water early.  i’ve had been on nights for 3.5 yrs before coming back to days in march.

Went with a friend to a couple of spots today.

Then we went to a WMA my buddy knew about. It has a very overgrown pond with very little evidence others fish it. Right off the bat I caught a decent bass.

Then there was a good while with nothing; finished with a few crappie though.

Then we decided to run down to the river spot I frequent so he could check it out.

I love this Rapala Shad Rap!

I'm at a stage where I'm not weighing bass that appear under 5lb. I lost my feel for size a bit earlier in the year, but I've had enough decent fish this month Ive gotten it back. I also firmly believe that we are not in different classes of angling, but in different times and places. Anyone with the same access I have could do what I do

Caught a giant crappie on a 10" ribbon tail and Jake got a PB redear sunfish!

Some nice hard fighting fish in there - hopefully we find the big girls this weekend.  🙂

A few more hours on the bayou this morning.  The bigger fish are showing pretty obvious post-spawn body condition here now.  The best out of 12 was this skinny 19" on a frog -- my first topwater bass of the year:

20250606_BayouPostspawner.jpg.3123a14f4af5b73c0d4e87caa51d1f17.jpg

A few others in the 15"-17" range, most on a frog or senko. Got pics of two of them:

Went home just as the place was starting to get popular.

A small smallie on an inline spinner, before I had to go to work. I have a very narrow casting lane but then again this is synonymous with smallies, tight to cover and no room. I am waiting to get into a big one with my bfs setup, should be fun.

I hit the pond at 5:30 this morning and fished until 7:45. Couldn't catch a thing. I was using a homemade bait for most of the time, and even though it had good action, it didn't seem to GET much action. I did have one nice bass hit it: probably would have been my biggest of the year (that's not saying much), but it was barely hooked, and one good head shake popped him free. It was national donut day or some such nonsense, so I went and consoled myself with a coffee and a free donut from a place in town before work. But hey, the scenery was beautiful:

After work, I took my boy back to the pond and spent most of the time catching bluegill for him to hold.

Finally hooked into a decent largie to end the day.
