Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Had my boss and his son over today . Primary goal was bream. The 2nd bream Alex hooked , as he had it almost to the dock , a bass clobbered the bream and he hooked the bass right in the corner of the

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

we’re in full post-spawn mode now, numbers were way down, but we managed to boat around 15 spots today with a few good ones mixed in

No doubt about it. His motto is on his shirt.

I'm beginning to think these fish are paid models who only show up for the photo shoot with you then bounce. I'm highly suspicious....J/K nice job.

And when I consider the $$ allocated to this obsession,  that's mostly the way it is.

Except the models don't always show up !

Got out for about 5 hrs. today. Struggled to get anything going but ended up with 9- 2 on a spinnerbait and 7 on a jig the best one going 3-14.

Popped out to a cove that has annually saw heavy spawning for a couple cast after work.  The 6 males I saw on beds didn't want to play and weren't locked on.  While making cast at them a big lady had moved in and out twice and the light bulb finally went off.  Back to back cast on a point that transitions from flat, deeper water, and cove mouth brought these ladies to hand.

Finally got the stank off! Hauled in a few but these were the best ones/ones that stuck around to pose for pics. After throwing Senko style baits here and there for a couple of seasons I decided to focus more on them. These are my very first soft stickbait fish (BPS brand). I'm hooked on soft stick baits now. One on the grass I estimated at 3 pounds and the other goes for about 2 pounds.

At the same time I was crossing the eyes on the ones above my fishing partner caught this nearly 5 pound smallmouth (yeah he didn't even invite me). Gonna go and try to catch his twin tomorrow.

Got out around 430. Had a friend along I hadn’t fished with for 5 years or so. ( he had took up golf, but suddenly called and wanted to fish.)

Weather was warm and windy. We caught 18 in the first hour and a half . I caught most of mine on a Houdini zoom fluke, and he caught some on the watermelon red fluke. All around eel grass.( as usual)

We got down to the south end and it was pretty dead . Cuaght a few and decided to head back towards home and kept catching fish all the way back. I had switched to the watermelon slice fluke and Bob ended up catching most of his fish on some kind of top water swim bait, can’t remember the name.

We ended up with 30 . No real big fish,  but still a great afternoon. A4788F3E-3EC2-4ADC-B40D-B62193EBFB90.jpeg021F2248-7B66-419E-B156-C37CF17DD6D4.jpeg4B79BBD3-3C30-4803-8EE8-AE9E9CFC97A2.jpegCE9EDE98-6AD0-439C-90FC-E941AEF28DFF.jpeg985BA385-2F92-479F-A663-FA07A0A1F25A.jpeg378F96B3-02C9-4983-8A91-850EAACBE2CC.jpegACF60A55-C0EE-49D1-BDBB-7E195C2B09B5.jpegAE79CF5D-A730-430D-BDC9-FE4944A71357.jpeg

The wife and I had a ‘date night’ we grabbed the poles and hit a bridge close to us to see if any smallies were in the river. First cast with her trusty Senko and she nailed the first SMB of the year that went 2-10.

Lots of action friday on a trip to a little out-of-the-way 40-acre lake.  A Siebert Fogy bladed jig was effective when cast right up to the shoreline, and when worked through scattered emerging lily pads. Where vegetation was thicker and the fogy started hooking up on pad stems too often, I would switch to a Rage Swimmer rigged weedless on a mustad powerlock hook. This "1-2 punch" accounted for about 2 dozen largemouth in 3 and a half hours, most around 2-3lb, plus a couple of little pike.

Here's the best one, caught on the Fogy; wriggled away before I could get a measure, but probably in the high 3s/low 4s:

A substantially bigger one came off on a surfacing head-shake about 10 minutes later.

Don't own a scale but going to Walmart tomorrow to get one lol. Anyone have any guess on what they think it weighed? Nothing crazy but still a nice bass for my first time at the pond ?

Edit: Compared next to a Dobyns 734C and my size 10.5 shoe

I tried something new tonight bank fishing a golf course lake. The lake is around 5 foot deep in the middle and most of it has a featureless mud bottom. I speculate that a good portion of the forage for many of the bass are the pale blue tilapia that are so numerous there. I selected a shad pattern deep diving (SK 10XD) crankbait, that rooted to and fro and and dug hard into the bottom leaving in its wake a plume of mud. The big hooks on the bait allowed me to use a heavy rig to bring them in through the shore vegetation. The result was a successful outing, leading to a 5 pounder and a 3-12 in quick succession.

Just 1 week after catching my first 5+ lb bass (that took me a year and a half to catch), I crushed my PB again by over a full pound!  This toad tipped the scales at 6.35lbs... and gave me one heck of a sleigh ride in the kayak!

Congratulations, man! Nice fish! Nice photo, too. Remember to up your PB in your profile!

4 pounds, 3 oz.

Yea I thought about 4lbs. Looked at a length to weight comparison chart it and said between 4-5lbs so I'm pretty happy.

Nice fish, my friend. Enjoy the memory.
