Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Hey… how to y’all post so many photos?  I get capped at 1mb and have to shrink my photos to be pretty grainy. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I crop them by using the edit function on my iPhone. Then I send them to my email. There's a drop-down menu that appears which allows for sizing all the photos in one shot before you send the photos. I then save the sent photos to documents on my laptop, then upload them here. I assume you could do that on your phone, but I prefer to use the properties function on my laptop to strip all info from each photo.

@The Baron I use a third party images hosting site. Postimages.org is what I use. Then I use the link from that site and paste it into the "insert image from URL" option in the "Other Media" tab.

Well, if we're going to split hairs about it, not even the "black basses" are bass.  They are sunfish.

I had another solid predawn excursion. I got started about 02:00 and put a couple dozen-ish in the boat by first light around 05:00. Then added another dozen or so with the flippin stick. Best of the trip was this 4.11#. I had three others that were within a bluegill or two of 3#. Lots of 12-16 inchers.

Y'all think she wanted that chatterbait?

thumbnail(11).jpeg.14f9351757c7e58045fcb8b36c828cf8.jpeg

Couldn't get any skis to cooperate. I raised three, but no takers. Back to the grind tomorrow, won't get to fish again until next Sunday night. Boooooo!!!

Went fishing yesterday morning before it got so dang blasted hot and caught a decent handful of bluegill and a couple shellcracker like this one. The bluegill were up at the lakefront dock, caught the shellcracker on an island sticking out from the bank. Then went down another turn down below a large rock, where I noticed a bass giving some bream absolute heck in the weeds, so I decided to bait up for a 3-4 inch bluegill(not sure how people here feel about that, but it's 100% legal here according to the game warden) and use it to see if I could coax thst bass out. And almost immediately it began pursuit of thst bluegill and had bad intentions for it-- absolutely hammered it, I saw the wake trail it left as it pursued my bluegill. It was a very enjoyable morning yesterday.

That Daiwa Triforce-Z 153iV is a baitcaster my dad bought for me 25 years ago when I was in middle school. I had been wanting a baitcaster and he said if I did well enough on my report card that year, he would do it, as he believes good work should always be recognized. So he placed $5 per B $10 per A, and being a math major, he placed $15 bucks on As in math. I ended up with $155 in all and we went to Bass Pro and I got it.  I am happy to be catching bass on it and even thouhh the reel handle shows some paint chipping, it still works wonderfully.

I have caught this bass

images (5).jpeg

Green fish are finally starting to bite again. Got 5 all on a jig fished in wood 8-12’ deep.

Biggest of the day went 4.7lbs. Earlier on I dumped one around 6 on a glide. I couldn’t stop her jumping and on the second jump out flew the bait.

This crankbait was a gift, and in a color I wouldn't have chosen for myself, I caught several on it until it "went under".

The walmart crankbait worked well at the river. I still have it after several trips to the river, which is somewhat headshaking, since I'd rather lose a cheap $2 lure than a $6 lure. It does work though and seems to be holding up well.

They didn't like this one, only fish I caught on it for a long time of trying and then lost it.

Went to the river one day and didn't get anything but this gar... but wow! I'd never caught a gar before, and since they are so hard to hook, I was surprised. I lost the crankbait shortly afterwards.... darn it.

It measured 34" long. I didn't weigh it but it was about 5 pounds. If I recall correctly, the state record is 40lbs.

An interesting side note... I was down to the same spot fishing yesterday evening, and with an identical replacement crankbait, and I hooked another gar, a smaller one. This time I had it foul hooked in the tail. I had it almost in, and was fixing to reach down to try to land it and it broke the line and swam off with a crankbait in it's tail. I hope someone catches it soon and removes the crankbait.

It wasn’t a rock trout

Honestly it doesn't seem to matter.  There's walleyes, muskies, pike, gar, rockies, sunfish, crappies, trout and everything else posted in the bass pics thread.  What's the point anymore.  Let's just keep making Roadwarrior's life more difficult.  Not like he doesn't spend any time moving posts to the correct threads...

  • Super User

Well... It's called the "latest catch pics thread". The title doesn't say anything about bass, and if you go to page one, there's a trout in post 4 and a pike or ski in post 6 so...... Seems like it's been multi species from the start.

  • Super User

While I do have occasional bycatches other than the intended quarry, largemouth is my target species. I don't specifically target smallies, but of course, they get in the mix anywhere you fish for largemouth in their respective range.

It is great to be back!!! And that first bass I posted the other day seemed to serve as sort of a test to see if I still remembered how to handle a bass. Caught it on 4 lb line while fishing on bottom for bluegill. It was a 19 incher and that was super fun listening to that drag screech after missing all of last year.

@Bazoo, nice gar! I wouldn’t worry about the crank, I bet he shook it free before you left . Things are tough as nails

If a gar gets tangled up in your 250 HP Merc, you'd have to replace the prop.

@Pat Brown: "Had a fun week." says it all, Pat, about your approach to life and fishing. I'm also all about fun in bass fishing. When the kid I take fishing caught some four and five-pounders, he suddenly was less happy to catch 2.5-pounders. "Never pass on happiness" is my motto, and yours too, Pat.
