Yes, started up again two years ago.  It's great exercise.

A local water well driller does this every winter. Kinda cool. 

 

 

Every year, Minnehaha Falls freezes over. Minnehaha creek starts from Lake Minnetonka and empties into the Mississippi River.

This is also the stream by which Longfellow spent some time and penned 'The Song Of Hiawatha'. The statue of Hiawatha and Minnehaha seen here sits on a small island in the creek about 50yds upstream from the falls.

He's gonna be getting some mail soon. I found a video online about him and showed it to my 7th grade classes.

Each student wrote him a letter. They thanked him for his service and wished him a happy early birthday. Some of them even shared a story about having a dad or grandpa or other family member who served in the military.I also got him a card from each of my classes and the kids signed them. Hopefully he enjoys mail day when it arrives.

I didn't know it was a thing until a couple years back.  Myself and my wife were backpacking Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore on our annual brook trout fest in the end of September.  We were up on a high point overlooking the lake and she says 'Look! Surfers!'.  It took me a minute to process because I had no idea what she was talking about, and then I saw a couple guys out there hitting the waves and thought 'Really?  In Michigan?' Lol

A couple old patches I picked up recently for a vintage tackle display in the office...

 

 

At the moment it looks like Wednesday may be a fishing trip to the local cooling lake.

Unfortunately weather is unpredictable this time of year.   Only time will tell.

By the time it's over on Tuesday eve - they're saying 7"-15" possible.

Did some serious winter landscaping today at our place. When we moved in, the road in front of our house was gravel and the 6 big cedars at the end of our yard served as dust control. Now that the road is chip and sealed, they're just big ugly cedars that are a pain to mow around and the only thing that can grow by them is poison ivy. My dad, mom, oldest son Lake, and I put in some major work and got all of them down, limbs off, and all the limbs piled for summer bonfires. Already had 2 of the big ones down in the first picture.

All cleared out

My brushpile I built, it's taller than my Tundra. Water is going to have to come up a bit before it's going to start holding any fish though.

Fish on! 

 

 

I love the St. Clair River.  Such a good spot for salmon, steelies, walleye, and burbot.

A small bay on Lake St Clair right behind a relative's house.  I pull monster pike here during ice out well into spring.  

 

 

It must be a long winter here in the northeast.

My oldest has always loved being in the boat. He was just a little over a year old here and I couldn't hardly get him out without throwing a fit.

Nah, we just let him have his head at the end of a good run - 

He'll usually gas out after a couple of hundred yard and then come back for a 'treat'.
