4 years ago today I was in Guttenberg, IA picking up a brand new to me Stratos 189 VLO. Motor only had 8 hours on it then, it has a few more now.

No school yesterday due to snow, and some of his ice fishing 'stuff' showed up, so he decided to break in the new equipment and new lake before I got him from work.

 

What are the odds when you drop a smoke and it stands on end?

Future spawning grounds. The tubes are for the catfish I was told. By the middle of next month the lake should be up another 6ft or so.

Always good to skive off on a Friday. Not exactly fast and furious fishing, but I got a few and the dogs had a good outing.

 

May 15, 1967, Duc Pho, Vietnam, Charles Kettles flew his UH-1 Huey into heavy enemy fire and rescued 40 American soldiers. He was awarded the Medal of Honor July, 2016, for his actions on that day 51 years ago. He reported to the "Last Roll Call," this past Monday, age 89. LTC Charles Kettles, USA (Retired), Medal of Honor. Please honor him.

Got out in my new to me canoe a little today. No fish. But I love river fishing out of a canoe. Maybe as much as I enjoy my boat. No fish on the tree. Never is. But made a decent photograph

It's that time of year I guess.

Took a drive down to my local launch on Georgian Bay, needless to say it’s gonna be a while before the boat is going out from there. You can see a few “hardy souls” out there in huts, right now it’s -17C with 40 mph north winds, so you can imagine it’s not a real fun day to be outside, but I may get the snowmobile out for a rip with the kid later. At least the sun is shining!

Went for a short ride around the lake, wind was pretty raw and the snow was blowing all over. Saw a couple deer snacking on some cedars in a backbay where I catch largemouth in the summer, man I sure wish I was in the boat rather than the sled but at least we got some “fresh” air ?. 

Got some baits from the Land of the Rising Sun today. They packed the box with newspapers and were nice enough to even include the daily comic for me. It was a real knee slapper too!

Way to cold to launch a kayak, so I'm going to the holodeck. "Computer, run Scoggins Trophy Bass Lake program and remove safety protocols."

Why sometimes I love the state trout stocking program. 

 

 

The only advantage of living in CA is the weather! Water temps too cold for the fish to bite in the areas I like to fish. Hooked one and lost it is as I forgot to tighten my drag back up.

Sometimes the couch is just not long enough! ( and someone hasn’t learned about personal space yet).
