Best spinning reels under $100?

Featured Replies

I had mentioned in another post about my purchase of a Sedona 3000. But would you guys most reccommend for a Spinning Reel under $100?

Shimano Sahara is  really good real for under $100 price point. You won't be disappointed with its performance.

As I mentioned in your other thread check out Daiwa's LT series.

Daiwa BG hands down imo.

Take that Sedona back and get the Diawa legalis lt, is my recommendation those sedonas are smooth but wobble on a fast retrieve I had one and sold it on Craigslist. Their not bad reels if you take good care of them very good care.

Pflueger President XT.  I have two and like them better than my more expensive Shimanos, Quantum and Daiwas.

For under $100 I find the best value spinning reel I own is the Lew's Mach II

The list price is $79.99 but I have seen and purchased this reel for under $60.

10 bearing system, aluminum body, Winn Grip knob, 6.2:1 ratio

Either a Shimano Sahara or Daiwa Tatula/BG.

Cabelas Prodigy, size 30, 6.2:1 ratio

Shimano Sahara, size 3000 to get the 6.2:1 ratio

KK Valiant Eagle, size 2000, 6.2:1 ratio

Pflueger President XT, size 30

Pflueger President or President XT

Diawa Revros

KastKing Sharky III

I have several rear drag Shimano reels from the cheapo Catana, Sienna, Sahara, to a Stradic Ci4+ and the Stradic is a disappointment. The Ci4+ has had a problem from day one with the line getting caught under the spools (all spooled the same with Yozuri 12lb. as all my other reels and they are spooled correctly) and Shimano won't even talk to me about a warranty spool or reel repair / replacement because the RD Ci4+ is available only outside of the U.S (I got mine from a dealer in Mexico). So, whatever you buy make sure it's a domestic model wherever you live.

Oh, the Catana, Sienna and Sahara are all GR8 reels which perform way beyond their meager price. I use them all regularly while the Ci4+ sits around waiting for me to diddle with it.

I had 2 Shimano spinning reels, and 1 Daiwa spinning reel.  I got rid of all of them when I started using Pflueger presidents.

I found my ocd was just kickin in. Nothing wrong with the Sedon FI. It’s a Nice Reel for the price. And I’ll be sticking with it. Thankyou for your suggestions guys.

Update, I've since switched over to the Daiwa sweepfire reels. They have stronger drags than the Shimano reels. Yeah the drags are not as strong as front drag reels but I for fresh water the Daiwa RD reel drags is more than enough.

Pflueger President is tough to beat. I got a Abu Garcia Revo X at the end of this season and loved it, but only used it 3 outings before winter came.

I think when you get up around the $100 mark, there are no really bad reels. Is there a brand that hasn't been mentioned in this thread?

My first reel was a Sedona with Rear fighting drag....I loved it and owned it for 12 years....they are a very good performing reel.
