You read that peanut butter and jelly or PB&J is a good jig color and I agree, but is it new?

The answer is no, it's a newer name for a very old color combination that dates back into the 60's era when vinyl jig skirts were state of the art. The combination of purple and brown was called "doo-dah" in the early 70's and obviously not acceptable term today.

I started making my hair jigs using black/purple/brown back in the early 70's based on the purple/brown vinyl jig skirts. I added black because I used black pork rind trailers along with purple and brown, this gave me 1 jig with 3 different color pork trailers without retying. I wasn't trying to match any crawdad color but the combination work very well when crawdads were the primary prey source. I started calling black/purple/brown combo "anywhere anytime" because it worked everywhere I fished it.

I think maybe the name itself for a bait color is relatively new, but brown and purple baits certainly aren't. Some of the first jigs I ever remember fishing were brown and purple round rubber jigs. 

Whatever you want to call that color combination of brown and purple the fact remains it just flat out catches fish...

It is one of the best jig colors I have ever found.

All they did to make Camo was to add red glitter to the Cinnamon & green glitter to Junebug (purple).

 

Like @WRB started that color has been around, every good jig fisherman has it in his box. I've thrown all across the southern states with great success.

 

This is another color that's just a deadly & has been popular down for ever. Just not by that name, we didn't name jig color. Black/Brown/Amber was what we called.

Catt, That is a good looking jig! I made a similar silicone color combo for Castaic in 80's, you are right we called skirts by the colors.

I do have a few brown/orange jigs left that I was not going to restock, maybe I should though!

Brown and orange 3/8 oz with a green pumpkin trailer has been very good to me throughout the years. Actually discovered the combo by accident over a decade ago. I broke off and that’s all I had left in the tackle box that day. Proceeded to catch quite a few and have used it ever since

This looks like a great jig to me also

I have caught more big bass on PB&J Mop jigs than any other and always have one tied on.

I stumbled upon PB&J by accident a couple years ago. I have a slight problem with color vision and picked up a bag of baits in a hurry thinking they are black/blue. Turned out to be pb&j. It was a very lucky mistake! It’s a great fall color for me. It’s also good on my lake when the bite is tough. 

 

Another great offbeat color color is black/orange. For some reason this color is good on a jig in the fall after a big rain with dirty water. 

One of my go-to jig colors for sure. If I could only have one, it would be some kind of Greenpumpkin variation, but PB & J would be a CLOSE second. As far as PB & J goes, I like to use a brown head, "tie" the skirt with mostly plain brown, use Junebug for the purple 'highlight" skirt color and use a Junebug Craw trailer. Deadly...

You must fish in an area that has virile crayfish. They have a brown/orange body with GP tails and claws. I have caught a lot of fish on a jig that had a GP head and trailer with brown/orange silicone skirt.
