Sniper FC too much memory

Featured Replies

I bought some sunline sniper (16lb. test) about 2 weeks ago to try flipping jigs with it, and i really like it. However, the memory on it is awful. It is acting like heavy mono coming off the my tatula like a slinky. I’ve been steady fishing it almost everyday for 2 weeks now and everywhere I read, the sniper is supposed to be very user friendly with not a lot of memory but mine does. Anyone know why or how to fix it ?

  • *Typically - the more sensitive and lower stretch  the FC line is  , the more memory you are likely to encounter . InvizX has more stretch thus it is less sensitive than Sniper FC . InvizX is fine for

  • never had an issue /w sniper having bad memory but put some line conditioner on it and it will work itself out.

I also use 16lb Sniper for t-rigs, and it's been pretty great.   I do spray some KVD line conditioner on it every few trips tho. But I'm not sure it needs it.

Same here.

It seems to be limp and casts well.  My only issues has been break offs. Not sure why but it will get a weak point in the line and snap on a cast.  I have tried multiple spools in different poundages over the years and if I don't pay attention to the first 10 feet, I notice that it starts fraying faster than other FC I have tried.  Still good line though.

Roger that. Just bought some line conditioner, hope it fixes it up.

Never had memory issues with sniper,

Use 20 for pitching in heavy cover and 16 lb  for moderate cover just this morning, boating 16 bass. I don’t use any line conditioners.

Sometimes in addition to line conditioner I will also tie the line off to a tree, back up normal casting distance and stretch the line for 1-2 minutes.

Where did you buy the Sniper from? Possible you bought fake Sniper... Sniper has also been a great performer for me and I never use line conditioner.

Not wild about Sniper FC for that same reason, had too much memory.   I prefer Seaguar Invizx in larger line sizes.

I use Sniper 16# and 14# never had problem with memory issues

I should never have to "condition" my fishing line. If a line needs to be babied like that, I can't depend on it. I did have a bad first experience with 14lb Sniper on my Bantam, blew it up so bad I had to cut it out. Seemed like it wanted to fluff up, but the reel was also new and I was trying to dial it in. I may try 14lb Sniper again but for now it's just a leader material for me. It certainly isn't the worst FC/mono/copoly memory that I've seen, but it's not like braid or anything.

Bought it off amazon. Think it might be fake? I was going to get some at bass pro, but I ordered it instead. The packaging and everything seemed to be the same?

Some people will take the original packing and spool up a cheaper line and sell it for a higher priced line. Such as spooling up Stren as Sniper and selling for $20+ Unfortunately this happens. Compare it to what you see at BPS and see if its the same. It may be 100% authentic but it also may be a fake as some people on the forum have experienced.

Here is what I ordered. Does it seem legit to you?

Seems ok but a few people have brought up authenticity issues. Was the line spooled on the reel nicely and uniformly?

Yep it was spooled up fine. It even had the little sticker holding the line in the notch (if you know what im talking about lol). Ive caught a couple fish on it so far and it feels more sensitive than my red label, especially on chatterbaits, which is what I upgraded from.

Should be fine. I think it will be authentic

Roger that. Being 17 with no job cause of school, $30 for a spool of FC really hurts haha. I imagine it will work itself out no big deal. Thanks!

I tried Sniper, on both a casting and spinning rig, couldn't get the memory under control. I tried all I knew to do, stretching the line, KVD, Reel Magic, even boiling the line on the spools, none of it made much difference.

The mouse button did the trick.....

.....as I clicked "Buy It Now" on those spools of Tatsu

I might have to make that move if the memory doesn't get under control. As it gets colder the last thing I want is a slinky of flourocarbon coming off my reel.

Hmm...

Tatsu is THE BOMB!

spongebob squarepants deal with it GIF

I tried 7lb on a M/L setup, threw it on 2 different reels and had such awful issues with memory and line lay that I ending up junking it and using regular-ol' Trilene mono. I just don't think fluro and spinning gear get along period.

This I'll agree with. Tried 10# FC on my Trion and even with KVD it was a mess. Switched to Yo-Zuri Hybrid and it's 'lovely'...if it's not Mono on my spinners - it's going to be Hybrid.

What are you comparing the 16 lb Sniper FC to?

You mentioned it's like mono coming off the spool, mono has less memory dia to dia then FC line.
