It can be a pain! But eventually they will mess up and get caught. Early in my career I moved them around too much. Long straight runs especially along a concrete driveway or sidewalk are my favorite. Intersections can also be good

What works for us ~ 

Try to use the animals keen sense of smell against them. 

Don't handle traps with your bare hands, wear gloves.

Leave traps outside when not in use.

"Fresh" runs are key.

Flatten old ones and hit them when they first come up.

Post rain is money as the ground is soft and they often move.

Clearly we are rookies & not "Professionals".

@TnRiver46 is probably laughing at this stuff,

but we gotta go with what gets the job done.

Never got any until we did.

You’re right, Rain brings the worms (and subsequently the moles) to the surface! My mentor always said go check mole traps when it’s raining. Granted, a lot of our work is on ladders so that’s another reason to check moles in the rain but it works 

2 hogs and 2 coons today 

Got a hog, coon and possum so far this morning. 
 

the raccoons are getting into an auto parts store, the second pic is from the roof. A superhighway of muddy footprints . The hog is probably the 5th one I’ve caught at the same house

At least the smell doesn't overpower the cab scent.

We have 4 of these Wire Tek 1001 Mole Eliminator Traps

and they are breaking new ground on mole eradication this summer.

I usually set 3-4 mole traps per yard and move them around unless they are just eat up and I may set 6-8 

Moles might enjoy what our property has to offer,

they just don't live long enough to spread the word.

What the heck. I don't think I've ever seen a mole but you're catching them all like they're Pokemon. Talk about a friggin colony under your property.

I live sort of in the woods and most every 'Healthy lawn' has plenty of 'food' to attract moles.

They do enjoy grubs a lot but I took care of that a long time ago and continue to eliminate them.

Moles can do a real number on the grass if left unaddressed. Many folks have them but can't or don't know how to get them.  We've got it down. Can't eliminate them, controlling them is about the best we can do.  We keep after it and hit every new tunnel as it appears  #zerotolerance.  Post rain is prime time as the soil is soft.  And you're right, we have been putting a hurting on the local population this year.  Hasn't been more or less than in the past, just that we're routinely nailing them.
