Silly question

Featured Replies

Silly question but I normally use blue painters tape to tape the end of the line to my spool during the off-season. I'm just sick and tired of how poorly it sticks and how often it just peels or falls off. I don't want to use like duct tape or something that would leave residue on the line on the spool. What do you guys use?

I moved to a place without an off-season.

But, in the way-back, I used to use rubber bands -- they'd dry out if left for a couple years, but for a few months, they work fine

Tie a loop in the end of the line and hook it round the reel foot.

I do a loop too, but hook it around the handle. This works for BCs and Spinners.

I use velcro straps.  Just wrap around the spool.

tie a small  sinker on and reel to the reel

I use non-residue electrical tape, or a loop the the reel foot if I'm not just removing the spool.

Not sure if it was spell check or not, I'm a CPA and in the middle of tax season...non-resident state tax filings are just so much fun.

Why care? you need to replace it anyway. (I hope)

I use a small piece of electrical tape so I can grab an outfit and give it a spin when I'm bored and can't fish.

Duct tape, and line exposed to it gets cut off anyway when I tie on a new bait.  But with all of the KVD L&L on the line not much of anything sticks to it very well.  I have several "line clips" I also use some times and cannot remember where in heck I got them many years ago.   They are 1/4x1/4" plastic with a tiny pinched  wire sticking out which just snaps on to the line.  Some drop sinkers have the same little wire thing to snap on the  line.  In reality I only tape down the line to remove the spool for reel cleaning and it goes right back in the reel.

I leave my line on until I'm ready to clean the reels just in case there is a warm day in winter when I can get out.  When the cleaning begins the line comes off.

When you take it off do you somehow "store" it or save it to be reused? Or just trash it?

I use mono, and it has probably been on the reel for 3 or 4 months.  I trash it.
