Best walk the dog lures?

Featured Replies

Looking for some of the best walk the dog lures to add to my arsenal. I'm trying to find the ones that walk the best. I'm putting together my first baitcasting combo and I'm very excited about it. This setup will be mostly for my topwater. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

A lunker punker is awesome! 6 inch spooks and one larger size.   Fishing magician skid stick. 3-8 inch sizes. Throws a lot of water while twitching side to side.  Hardcore customs 8 inch Hellfire missle. Casts like a bullet but good luck getting one.

smaller spooks I love the strike king sexy dawg

Evergreen SB, comes in two sizes

I was looking into these thanks! What colors would work bluegill or bone?

I think the Strike King Sexy Dawgs are pretty good.  Easy to walk.  And the price is decent.

Usually color doesn't matter much for me since I fish mostly clear water, so something shad color is what I use.  Bone,  sexy shad, green gizzard shad, blue gizzard shad.  All work for me.  They don't see much of the color other than the underbody and some splashing usually anyways.  I do mainly use the Jr. size with 2 hooks.

Best is always a popularity contest. Your Rod-reel combo is very important to get good walking action with whatever brand of walking lure is choosen. For 99.9% of bass anglers lures between 1/3 oz to 7/8 oz covers the weight range.

My choice based on numbers is Owner Zip n Ziggy* in baby bass, cast good and walks with little effort. For overall larger bass is Lucky Craft Wooden Sammy in Pearl Shad. RI Vixen is another good choice.

I use bone a lot, have never used bluegill. Good luck

My favorite walking bait has also been a Super spook, old bait that still catches.

Also walk a Super fluke in the same manner except under water.

Never caught much on walk the dog, short twitch and pause or wake seems to work better at least on a rapala

btw is it rap ala?

or ra pal a?

the ole timers always said the latter,

ive heard tell of Huge strings on Toledo bend on large rapala’s back in the 60’s but then again you could have strings on TB on just about anything in the glory days of that honey hole

Easy to walk award for me goes to Duo Realis Pecil.

Has a uniquely designed 'ball' on the front of the bait.

Gets plenty of bites too.

Also like the Vixen, the sexy dawg and recenty the original super spook has done some real damage.

Thanks A-Jay I will pick up one of those Duo Realis. What color do you like?

I’ve always used a Zara spook.

I wouldn’t get too hung up on colors. Just get one light and dark. Sound is a different story. Silent, rattle, or one knocker may work better on a given day. I’d focus more on obtaining a few different sounds than color. My $0.02.

Spooks have never let me down. Just change the hooks. Those Heddon stock trebles are a rust liability.

All top water baits pretty much Imitate chasing shad don’t they, that would dictate shad colors

sounds like rap ala on thier history of the lure site but I still say ra pal a

its all good

My favorite is a Sammy 115 that’s missing an eye. Most of the finish is worn off, but it was Aurora Black. My second favorite is a Popmax. The Python finish has held up better than the Sammy.

Nothing prettier than a beat-up bait.

Rebel Jumpin Minnow in bone. Like the PopR it was discontinued at one time but brought back. Sometimes I color the back black with a magic marker.  Easy to walk, good sound, casts a mile, and doesn't break the bank.  I landed a double digit bass on one this summer, along with roosterfish, jacks, pargo, and yellowfin tuna.  Hooks are poor.  I don't ever hear any one else on this sight recommend this lure.  Does any one else use one?  Why no love?

Thanks a lot, WRB. Another topwater bait I don't have.....yet. Just like @Bluebasser86 and his Catwalk. When you guys that know what you're about give up a favorite topwater lure I just gotta have it.
