I've been a mono fan all these years, and I've just started using a braided line this year with a bit of skepticism, but I'm enjoying what the line has to offer: no stretch and less tangling in which I'm very happy about. Currently, I'm using Sufix 832 Hi-Vis which I enjoy quite a bit. My only beef is the constant lube job, and the line losing its color as it faded from Hi-Vis Yellow to a dull bone color. I'm not too happy about the fade as it is not too visible as it once were so I have to focus more on the line. Other than that, I'm content. I'm curious as to how often you experts change your braided lines and why.  

Can you explain the constant lube job?

I use original Power Pro and have for years. The only time I change is when it gets low on the spool.

I've used both original Power Pro and Sufix 832. The PP is going into it's 3rd year next spring, the 832 will be on it's second year. I only change out if it gets low...and since I use leaders now, it takes a LONG time for that to happen.

 

By 'lube', do you mean KVD, Reel Snot or something similar? I don't use line treatment on braid...just because.

Yes, correct.  Some folks suggested that I use it the night before I go fishing, and my understanding is it's supposed to prevent a line tangling. I don't know.

I use KVD - but only on my mono and hybrid lines...I don't use FC. I haven't had any problems with line-tangle with my braid...yet. Maybe if I do, I'll give the KVD a shot at it.

I never change out my braid unless it gets so low that I have to, though I will reverse it after 2-4 years.

I use 832 and same as stated already. I do use KVD line treatment on all my lines.

On mono every nite before on braid and floro depends on how it feels when casting. The stuff does work. IMHO

Only when my braid gets low.  I have never lubed my lines (mono or braid) before. Seems like another "catch the fisherman" product.

I can attest that it DOES help YZH.  10# on my Trion-30 and 12# on two of my BCs became limper with less memory. Dunno if it helped the mono, but I used it there anyway. I'm sold on it's effectiveness.

I use yellow braid on my spinning rigs. I change them every 2 years only because the yellow fades some. After a year I just take the braid off and  reverse it so I will have fresh looking braid.

I have one ultralight trout spinning setup with the same braid on it from 2010. Most of the others I swap out when I'm bored and have a new brand/type to try.

 

If I could settle on a universal braid I could buy one bulk spool of the two I get (one for spinning, one for casting) and have it last at least the next 15 years.

 

 

When my line is low or Have reversed it and color is  faded out beyond my liking.

Every couple of years when the line starts for fray or discolor.  I don't think I have ever used line conditioner on braid.  Might have to give it a try. 

I think I'm going on 8 or 9 years on my braid.  I reversed it after 4 years and it was like new line again.

I thought I was cheap...lol

The line conditioner that I use "Real Magic" seems to work. I use it on my mono setups and IMO it works. I didnt think it would really do anything for braid though because it has zero memory. I did just talk to a guy at bass pro that said he soaks his line spool in lukewarm water as he spools his reel up though. 

I only change mine when it gets low or is really starting to fray. I never use conditioner on any of my lines.

Flip my braid after a year, change it after two years due to wear. Use KVD conditioner on all lines the night before a trip. I just like that new line smell.?

I only have 832 on my frog rod and the current spool just finished its third year.

So, what would be the easiest way to reverse the braided line w/o having a tangled mess?

I keep a couple empty source-spools. Take the line off the reel to one, move it to the second, re-spool.
