Yup... that's the real story. It was just life... got rid of everything... passed all my gear along to my kid, my family, my friends... sold the rest... moved... raised... lived... and now it's just my wife and I

 

I went fishing for the first time with a work buddy a week back... had to borrow one of his setups LOL!! It was really good!! So now I'm thinking it might be time to pick it up again... re-equip as I own nothing!!

 

I noticed that alot of the forums I was a member of back in the day no longer exist. I found this one which seems to be very similar to one I was with a long time ago. And that's how I'm here.

 

Although I don't bass fish per say, I used to use the very same gear... in fact every piece I had I brought up from the US. If it ain't Shimano or come from Pure Fishing it can't be found locally. Even our Cabelas is nothing like the ones I've visited down south. I'm a Daiwa fan and that ain't particularly easy to find in my parts so I'll be on your Flea Market regularly.

 

I guess that's it... the story. I have the winter now (and oh boy did we welcome that in over two days with a few feet of snow!!) to gather up a few items for spring ?

Seriously, you will always NEED something else. Start with just one rod & reel

and a handful of lures that you are going to use NOW (when you start fishing).

Actually, I'm pretty attuned to what gear I need... at one time I had two boats outfitted. I had mostly Daiwa spinning reels... Abu C3 and C4 along with a Browning casting reel... Fenwick, St Croix, Loomis, All Star and a guy from SC built me a half dozen customs LOL!! Oh and I had a couple of Mitchell Copperhead 6ft'ers that I used for jigging Not to mention I dabbled with four fly setups.

 

I mostly fished for Pike and Walleye but a few times a year I would go after Trout.

 

I setup for ice fishing one year but afterwards decided against it. Even though I was born and raised in the cold I just don't like fishing in it!!

 

There is no way I'll need what I used to have and in a few more years I'll be retired so a couple three nice little setups and I'll be off to the races!!

Can't stress this enough

 

I returned to fishing after a 20 year hiatus - started with what I had in my basement. Two 40 year old spinning rigs and a 35 year old BC rig plus the contents of a Plano Hip-roof box

 

Yep - that's all I had

 

Now - I have a modified canoe, 10 'new' rigs, and 3 tackle-bags of 'stuff' - build slowly as you gain knowledge and experience...no need to drop a few thousand the first year.

No thanks, lol.  I still have a couple Plano Phantoms and a pile of the Rubbermaid boxes from back when my boat didn't modern storage.  Those Phantoms weighed a ton when full.

Ya - I've got a couple of the 3-Tray Plano boxes still as well. Those and the hip-roof are gathering dust and cobwebs now.

That's not a three tray Plano.  It's about 24" x 14" x 18".  The one I have has five drawers, and weighs around 50 lbs. when loaded up.  You put it in your boat, and leave it there, lol.  Here's one next to a 3-tray for perspective:

Welcome aboard! Pike fishing has always been my favorite until I started targeting specifically Largemouth Bass. They're so aggressive and tough. It's hard to beat a Pike bite (As long as you don't love your tackle, that is, because they're tough on it).

Welcome to BR!! I took a 13-year fishing hiatus from 1997-2010 and am still kicking myself about the time I lost and will never get back. But at least I'm fishing now and the past decade has been very fulfilling. Like you I started from scratch gear-wise. I went out and bought an Ugly Stik spinning rod and $20 reel because that's what I had before. Then gradually upgraded from there.
