Go-to saying before setting the hook

It depends if I got the fish or not. If I got the fish, and it feels big I usually focus on landing the fish. If I lost the fish, you may hear me saying various profanities or just "Jumanji"

I’m a follower not a leader, so I mimic the pros and say “big un” or “giant” as soon a I feel the tap or see my line move. My accuracy in predicting the size while setting the hook is on par with thei

I dont usually say anything if I'm by myself. If someone is with me I will usually give them a heads up and say "fish or bite" or something.

Normally I don't say anything but if i'm dragging a big jig or a Carolina rig and my buddy is fishing with me on the front deck I'll quickly tell him to watch out or duck his head before I give a big hookset.

I talk to the fish.

If I'm keeping count, will say, "you're number xx"

In almost every video I've made I hear myself saying what sounds like "Ooop!" followed by "Got one!" or something similar. I need to do a montage someday.

While in a tournament - very quiet - say nothing other than "get the net"

Fun Fishing - Geaux Tigers!

"Here, hold my beer".

***Just kidding for the more serious types.  I don't drink.  Thought I better point that out before the editorials start.

I really had to think about this, as although I basically fish 100% solo, I know I “talk”, especially when I lose one lol. And having thunk about it, I believe this is what I say the most times when I get a bite, set the hook and a fish is on.

Actually a strange thing for a Ravens fan to say!

Glenn Madden who kayak fishes off the TX coast says,  "Yip-Pah."

When he took out a couple of Aussies for kings on topwater, they picked it up, too.

For some reason, I like to say "bwaaah," when I've got a bite.  My brother tells me I sound like Hank from King of the Hill.

Don’t really get to set the hook enough to develop a habitual verbal response. More likely say to myself, “Was that REALLY a bite?”

If I think about it when I hook one I say you're not allowed to get off. You have to stay on the hook. Once in a while they actually listen to me and stay on until I get them in the boat.

Usually don’t say anything. If partner hooks up I’ll say Net? a couple of times. If no answer I grab it anyway. That’s just about the time they swing the fish and hit me in the head with it!

On a good day its "fish on" on a bad day its  "*expletives* finally".  When I'm with my wife it's a lot more of just laughing because Ill crank out a bunch of fish out of nowhere and I know she gets mad and starts organizing the tackle lol.

If my wife fished with me I would do everything to make sure she caught

most of the fish and hopefully, the biggest.

I usually don't say anything. If I do, I say, "ope."

Depends....

If I miss it's a long drawn out "awwwwwww"

If it's small I usually don't say anything and just boat flip the fish before whoever I'm fishing with even notices I have one.

If it's at least decent size I usually go "there's one"....followed by "NET!" if it's big, or "OH MY GOD" if it's really big lol.

I talk to myself quite a bit when I'm fishing alone. I say "we" a lot, like there's someone else in the kayak with me. I really only shut up when there are others around.

I believe I say "There's one" or something like that.

I don't have to try. That just naturally occurs when I take my wife or daughter. But neither have any interest in the sport now. Unless my daughter has a kid who like fishing I won't get to pass it down.

I have realized that I frequently say to myself, "Set the hook hard this time, dumazz!"

I don't think my wife would know the difference between a rod and a reel...She just care a thing

about fishing.

I fish solo most of the time. I still talk to myself.

my saying (that I noted above); “here we go..”. I mumble to myself for a myriad of reasons.  A phone call I’m expecting, a turkey walking into my archery shooting lane, waitress putting down a plate of food, AND the tap-tap-tap of a bass sucking in my bait offering.

”here we go”.   It just works for me, and it’s like a signal fir me to get to work (ot something). I’m weird.

Before.......half the time I set the hook before I know it.
