Mono Users: Green, Camo, or Clear?

Featured Replies

For fishing the Boreal Shield type lakes from Maine, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Ontario which have clear-ish tea stained waters - what color of Mono line would you pick?

I'm in NH, I know that water fairly well. I use both and haven't noticed a difference.  Mccoy mean green and clear Silver Thread, both of similar diameters.

I use Berkley Big Game in green, steel blue, & coastal brown.

Why: because at certain times of the year the water clarity changes & one of those colors makes it easier for me to see the line.

I use clear or green except on my worm  rod which gets spooled with clear blue fluorescent . Green blends in with the greenish water in my area which makes it almost invisible to  my eyes ,  when trying to watch the line .

I fish green mono the most, but also use clear at times.

Me Too.

And how long will it be before the 'Green/Tinted FC' makes an appearance ?

A-Jay, my thing is that I need to see the line. Cloudy days it's harder for me to see clear, but I'm not sure if either line color effects the fishing.

I started using Green - well so long ago I don't actually remember when I started.

Either way, at this point, it's just a confidence thing for me.

8, 10, 12 lb topwater & jerkbaits.

Line color is only important to aid your ability to see it above the water. We are all different in our ability to see line, line doesn’t affect the bass as far as I can determine.

We use to soak mono line in coffee thinking the light brown color was an advantage using live bait.

Green, clear, blue, pink, brown all seem to work equally regarding catch rates.

Sunline Defier Armilo Nylon is the perfect color to match the op’s water coloration. I really like this line.

Since the tidal Potomac is consistent......murky that is, Green for me always.

Most of my rigs it's either clear or green. For finesse rigs, however, I go with a bright color mainline for visual reference, with a clear or green leader.

Clear or green. I was using green more than ever in 2020. Clear Big Game was sold out in my area.

For the last few months, I've been using Sufix Camo Elite mono. Very supple line, it also blends in really well in the slightly tea green stained water I fish pretty often. I did use in clear water twice, and had good results.

This s now my go to mono line.

I only use green mono. Since fluorocarbon is clear It allows me to easily remember what I have on each reel

I always used/liked trilene clear/blue fluorescent but I guess they no longer make it

No - they don't have an XL or XT style - but I did use Stren 10# Clr/Blue Fluorescent last year and it seemed limp enough.
