Under spin pricing...

So this is something I don't get. I've never really tried an underspin so I looked into them more recently and I don't get it. They are a jighead with a tiny blade attached and they are charging $5-$8 apiece. You can buy a nice crank bait, spinner bait, bladed jig etc...for that price. I just don't get it.

Better to think about it as people are paying $5-$8 apiece, lol.

I totally agree with you.  They cost less for me to make than a skirted jig.

Not this guy. Maybe I'm missing out but I'm not dropping spinnerbait money on a crappie jighead with a .40c blade attached.

The ones I purchase are between $4-$5..........

Gamakatsu.............and I do well with underspins in a lot of places I fish.  Great in clear water.

Well, a few years ago on a BassResource Roadtrip at Pickwick I fished a Sworming

Hornet/ LFT Live Magic Shad almost exclusively. On day 1 I caught 78 bass, mostly

smallmouth.  I thought it was worth the price and I still fish the same lure.

Blakemore original Road Runner underpin are under $2.50 ea. Road Runner have been around for decades.

Swarming Hornet fish head under spin became popular in the early 90’s out west,  hand made and cost was about $4.50 each.

California record 4.33 lb black crappie was recently caught by a bass angler using under spin /4” swimmer.

I heard from a well respected source (the bait monkey) that the more you spend on a bait the more fish you will catch on it.  ?

Guess my real issue is I know how snaggy a plain old jighead is when they have no weedguard. I mean for where I fish the flashy swimmer is more practical and less then half the price.

But listen I'm in no way saying they aren't productive.

I have been using the Sworming Hornets with either a Super Fluke or Swimming Fluke and have caught plenty of fish on them. I bought some Owner Flashy Swimmers to try. They are hooked weedless and can be used around heavier cover.

Several years ago the Bassmaster Classic was won with an underspin. I think it was Casey Ashley but I could be wrong.

I use the Owner Flashy Swimmer and honestly don't think the price is bad for what you get.....

Go back and read it again. I said underspin. I didn't specify a brand. :neener:

Blades and good swivels are expensive, much more so then skirt material and weedguard material.

This was the specific lure:

I think hes saying jigs are over-priced too .?

Underspins have been kind of hot for a while now, and yes they are overpriced. They're really nothing new either. Now they come with better plastic, hooks, spinner and swivel, but still just a hot rodded Blakemore Roadrunner. The best option might be to buy heads and put them together yourself.

Northland Thumper Jig.  Good colors.  Well made.  Made in USA  2 pack - 4 bucks.

DSG used to sell a 3 pack of Blakemore under spins that had Randy Howell on the package.  I think they were $8 retail but I bought a bunch on clearance for like $6 per pack.  To me that's a decent enough deal, but yeah they seem priced far above their components
