Megabass vs anything

Featured Replies

I think the 110 and it's cousins are the best stickbaits out there. There are times I like the McStick and some others better but day in and day out I'll take the MB.

Heck, if I figure boat payment, fuel costs, insurance ect., 10 bucks one way or the other for what the fish actually bites is of no concern for me personally.

Twice I’ve cut off megabass jerkbaits, tied on a Cabela’s Mean Eye Jerkbait and caught a nice fish on the very next cast, one was over 6 and a half and the other was just under 5 and a half.

  • To me it ain't about cost, it's about results, & Megabass's results ain't all that impressive.    Explain to me how spending twice as much for the same results is better?

I'd like to hear that too....but as you know, lures attract fisherman more than fish.

Apparently your results with megabass differ from others...mine included. I wish I hadn't had the results I've had with megabass because my bank account would look a little better. I've personally witnessed a vision 110 dominate every other jerkbait my buddies and I have tried, including rapala, kvd, spro and lucky craft....sometimes.  Obviously there are times others likely work better. Maybe we just aren't fishing the others correctly. Or maybe the megabass just catches fish? At 25 bucks a pop they work or places wouldn't constantly be out of stock. When I find something that's close to equivalent I won't buy them anymore myself....til then I'll roll around with a bunch!

I have several Megabass baits and some are hit and miss.

The two main ones that didn't get the job done....  Any of their soft plastic and the Cyclone crankbaits.  I can't speak for everything they make but most everything I have has caught fish pretty well.  The question is are they worth the extra cost.... Probably not at full price.

And like a lot of things in fishing, they catch more fisherman than fish.

Maybe not where you are and I really don't care. I know how they work here in the Ozarks on Table Rock and Bull Shoals.

If your happy fishing whatever kind of stickbait you like more power to ya .

Like somebody has to justify it to you ?

The fact that they're twice as much or more is the reason I only have a few Megabass lures, but the ones that I do have do produce very well for me. I can justify the poppers since I don't lose them and they do everything so well.

I doubt they all work that well, and some of them I'm skeptical if they'd work at all to be honest.

Megabass in IL, IN, MI, WI, MN, etc equals a very expensive fishing trip when a pike or musky bites off your bait.

Threw a Pop Max once...and I literally mean once! LOL. First freakin' cast and a little pike made my $20 go bye bye!

On my budget - it hurt when a decent size pike made off with my Rattlin' Rap...

Little sensitive are we ?

The only one that has to justify anything to me is Megabass  & they have failed.

Yeah their products are high quality but so are everyone else's, yeah their lures catch but so does everyone else's, so that leaves one deciding factor cost.

What I save in cost I'll put in fuel to tow my boat to the lake.

So don't buy their products, They will probably close the doors.

I live around the best stickbait fisherman in the country and where it all started and I don't know a single person who doesn't throw the 110.

There are others like the McStick, pointer and Rerange but you won't find a bait that works better right out of the package than the MB.

Seriously they are all just tools in the tool box!

Patrick Walters dominant performance on Lake Fork he was throwing a Rapala Shadow Rap, a Megabass Vision 110+1 and a Duo Realis model.

All tools in his box! ?

Well I don't know this from practical experience I can only assume through logical deduction but I'd say the mega bass spinnerbaits aren't the best. Lots of favorite spinnerbaits threads on here you always hear booyah covert, Nichols, war eagle etc....rarely hear megabass mentioned. At $15 a bait...almost twice the other ones...I'd expect more.

You had me until you said their products but so are everyone else's.......there are plenty of low quality baits out there.......

When ever MegaBass comes up on a forum this is how the conversation goes just like you are seeing here. I for one am a huge Megabass fan , why because they catch fish big time. If they do not work for you well then so be it, but why does it always turn into a "justify the cost"conversation if it is not about the cost. The range of product that MegaBass offers the angler has not even scratched the surface in this conversation to even consider it something to evaluate it. Yes I still have a boat load of Rapala lures that got replaced years ago sitting in the basement and then there is Jackall , Raid Japan, Imakatsu, Rosso Corsa , Gan Craft to name a few.

Everyone is arguing and I’m thinking “Surely I’m not the only one who read this title and yelled in my head MEGABASS VS. GODZILLA”.

At it's current direction we'll be getting that "And Scene" post soon........lol

Or maybe the "Goodnight Irene"

Worst part is when your friend of 30 years doesn't let you hear the end of it...and we grew up in the 80's so being PC isn't a thing. ?

II GODZILLA’S REVENGE

Because Megabass is so “the lure” he was caught last time???????

It was last summer or the summer before I was bass fishing and caught a decent  muskie.  It cut my line at the kayak.  My first thought was "d**n, that was a $15 chatterbait!"

I got my initial reaction on film...here's the lost lure/pike incident.

Stickbaits? I don't throw them much but when I do, I'm still throwing a Smithwick Rogue. And still happy with them.

  • Super User

If I tie on an expensive bait, i simply don't cast in the direction of a pike or Musky......that's all I got to say about that.
