Greatest lure ever...according to Ike

Featured Replies

Just watched a video last night in which Mike Iaconelli claimed a skirted jig is the best lure ever based on its versatility and ability to be fished all year under all conditions.

While I can't argue with his points...in fact he's probably right...I'd say the plastic worm and spinnerbait are up there.

What say you?

  • Ok spinnerbaits guys teach me your punching technique with a spinnerbait.   It's simple to research, pull up every tournament you can find both amateur & pro. Look in the results for lur

  • Soft plastic worm has caught more bass then jigs and spinnerbaits combined. #1 is the worm!, everyone can catch bass on them everywhere. Tom

Spinnerbait has to be up there.

Easily... fish it at any speed, anywhere in the water column, any season.  You wanna cast and reel- pick up a jig.  You wanna drag something slowly along the bottom- yup, Jig...

Spinnerbait and t rig plastic worm are up at the top too.

I'd go with a jig too due to it's ability to be successful in most any conditions and time of year.

That being said I'm going out tomorrow and have a jig and a spinnerbait tied on.

I'm a terrible fisherman so my best lure for when I want to eat fish is Costco.

NEVER caught a fish on a skirted jig.  I can count on one hand how many fish I've caught on a spinner bait.

Over the years, a tube probably has been my most catchingist bait with various finesse worms dropshotted creeping up in second

Is he talking a single bait or technique? Because if technique it’s a Texas rigged hook. Spinnerbait is the same. I have to change blades, weight, and color to maximize success throughout the year. Assuming he’s talking singular bait though. A black/blue or GP 3/16 ounce jig will catch fish coast to coast 12 months a year in pretty much every condition. Same could probably be said for a weightless senko but the jig does offer more versatility at depths and swimming through grass.

What I been telling y'all ?

Statistically the #1 for quality & quantity is a Texas Rig & the Jig-n-Craw is #2.

You can argue either one as #1 & #2!

My question is why would you not want both tied on 24/7/365!

I'm a shorecaster; it's a spinnerbait. More angles and more (different) depths at different speeds.              jj

Jig is definitely a close second but spinnerbait gets my nod. It can get that reaction bite the way a crank can deflecting off cover. It can go through almost anything. Can be fished at almost any depth and at any speed.

I'd take a jig if I could only have 1 bait forever.

Yeah I'm in the not a jig camp. I dont have a greatest of all time lure according to me, I dont have enough experience fishing yet. I see the texas rig as a technique and not a lure so that doesnt count for me.

What you'll find is Texas Rigged plastics #1 & Jig-n-Craw #2.

All the others combined can't touch em!

Show me what rig works best for punching through water? :P

There's a ton of water that doesn't have weeds that require punching.  I mean, not where you are, or really even where I am, but you know...  Enough that there are probably many anglers that never need to rig up a punch rig.  I'm not putting in my #1, but it deserves a mention in the top 5.
