So I have revisited my Ned rig fishing and fallen back in love with it. I repurposed my drop shot rod (Gloomis 822dsr ) but Id really like to have a drop shot ready to go as well.

So Im in need of a rod for my Ned.

Ive been reading like crazy and some people like em stiffer but my drop shot rod has done pretty well for me. I predominately throw a 1/10th ounce Ned head.

 

So what are you using ?

I use a loomis SJR which is similar to the DSR and really like it. Braid to 4 or 6 lb FC

 

The MB whipsnake is also a fantastic rod for this application 

My ned rod is a Dobyns Fury 702sf. 

My bc Ned is a 6’9” Gloomis ML Bronzeback with a Shimano 70 XG and 6# fluorocarbon line.

Tatula 7'1" ML rod, and a Tatula LT 3000 with 8lb braid to 8lb FC leader.

I like a lighter rig for Neds. 7' Diawa Procyon Light/Fast. Avocet RZT-1000 with 6# InvizX.

This is my favorite ned rod.  The XF DS rods are good, but I land more fish with the softer tipped Tatula.

St Croix Avid 8' Medium Light Moderate with 8# Nanofil.

Mine is a 6' 10" ML/XF St. Croix LTB.

I don't own it but I handled one in a shop recently, and it seemed like it would be excellent for ned rigs. 7' light power Zodias rod. It felt great.

My main Ned rig rod is my Daiwa Tatula Elite AGS 7’6” ML. It has about the perfect action and power for me for a Ned rig, and the extra length helps me get some more distance on my casts. 

Mine is Dobyns FR702SF

Would this be good for bomb casting a 3/16 3 inch swimbait?

Yes absolutely. I fish my small swimbaits on this rod quite frequently. It’s really a great all around finesse rod.  

Thanks for all the help everyone. So I decided to try out the GLoomis IMX-pro NRR.

I took it out two days straight after I received it in the mail and it was a hoot to catch smallies on. We tore it up for 30 something fish.

I really like the feel of the Loomis rods, I think this one is my 4th or 5th.

I would definitely suggest its a great option for anyone looking for a dedicated NED rig...

I use a Berkley Cherrywood that I bought for $10.  Works great!

My current Ned Rig rod is an old style highland reservoir hair jig rod.   Fenwick HMG 5'4" Med/

extra Fast Tip with a small light reel and 10 lb braid.  Sometimes I'll go braid to leader, but most of the time not and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

I use a St Croix Avid X 6'9" ML/XF with a Daiwa BG 2000 with 12# Sunline SX1 12# braid with Seaguar Blue Label 6# leader.

Agree with the Whipsnake comment above... back when my wrist worked and I was able to use spinning rods. Very nice rod for drop-shot and Nedding...

 

I do have to say that if you use straight fluoro, a baitcaster reduces/minimizes line twist. For that I use 7 lb Sniper on a Phenix Feather 7'1" Light with a Daiwa Alphas Air TW baitcasting reel. Almost unfair how far and smooth it casts a 1/10th oz Ned...

Hell, I must be high.  Not sure I am fishing this Summer and don't need another rod, but just pulled the trigger on this....I have more problems than I realized ?

There is an old saying in the photography world (I'm a part time picture guy)...

 

"the most important piece of photography equipment you own is the 12 inches behind the camera..."

 

The rod I have been using for NED rig is a Cabela's Fish Eagle Classic IM6, 6'-6" medium weight / 6-12lb /  1/8-1/2oz rod.

 

It's not so much the rod, as it is me   : )

A discontinued GLX 821s SYR rod and an NRX 901s JWR BOTH WORK WELL FOR ME.
