The season has officially changed with the First Day of Flannel. When I got up to walk my dog this morning the temperature was in the low 40’s.

 

Then driving to the dealership this morning to get my car repaired I actually had to turn on the heater! Fall is officially here in the south. I might even have to wear flannel pants to bed tonight. 

 

In all seriousness, this year has flown by. As I get older, I hate when that happens.

It was 63 this morning at the ranch and ran to get my sweat pants on!

It was 38 degrees here the past couple mornings.  Slight frost in some areas.

 

It is supposed to be sunny and in the low 70's for a couple days now.  Later this week the highs are in the 50's though.

 

Haven't had to run my AC or my heat for over a month.  Sure is nice on the energy bill.

Crazy temperature ranges this time of year. Winter coat in the morning and shorts in the afternoon.

My uncle in Wisconsin doesn't even have a heat or AC installed in his house, just a wood burning stove.

Seems like the wood or pellet burning heat sources are gaining popularity with the increase in cost of natural gas and propane.

 

I would not live in a house without air conditioning. This past summer was beyond miserable hot and seems likely to continue.

When we were up there, it was 95 degrees.  Wasn't bad at all.

It was probably 65 degrees.  

We had a couple 100 degree days this summer, they were hot, but what can you do?

It was 65 in his house without any kind of air conditioning when it was 95 outside? I would like to know how he does that. He’s discovered a route of cooling without using energy which the rest of the planet would find very useful.

 

When it’s that hot out, I hibernate in my air conditioned basement.

Actually - 'This Old House' did a segment decades ago. A system of deep trenches in the yard 4'-5' deep, sealed and covered, connected to a heat pump. For a little electricity, the house stayed in a narrow range year round with only the occasional fire in the fireplace needed during deep winter.

 

Ground that deep stays near a constant 65-70 year round

I'm not sure.  We even had the door open a lot too.  I'm sure he probably told us, but I can't recall.

I'll be camping 3 nights this week in the 40 degree weather. It'll be nice not to be sweating in my tent for a change. 

It was 59 last night here. That’s refreshing for my area. Of course, it’ll be low 80s for a high, but that’s a big improvement too. 

Great fishing weather , if I can find time to go.

As for the flannel, not yet. Probably in another month…

Oh ya, I can believe that.  That's why some homes are using geothermal energy instead of standard heating and cooling.  Its a higher up front cost, but if you intend to live there long term, its worth doing.  I have a split home and the lower level stays cooler than the upper level by about 4-5 degrees all year.

Here in Ga with no AC in your house you'd never be able to dry off after stepping out of a shower with our humidity. 

We've gotten as low as 40s at night, but it's been floating in the 60s for a bit here.  All I can think of of this great album:
