I made some more progress these last couple warm days. Got the decking riveted in and a good part of the Seadek down. Seadek would be completed but USPS is taking their time with the flat head stainless screws I need for the front seat base. Couldn't find any local. Those front few pieces will have to wait until it warms up again next week. I should have the floor between the rear and middle seats installed tomorrow, then on to electrical. Timeline is tight, but I think I'm still on track to have it ready to fish the first week of March. Ice may be gone by then if the forecast holds.

 Nice ~

The Nimtz is really shaping up . . . .

Yes we are and I hate this time of year maybe worse than winter!  It gets me all excited and then crushes my dreams!??

One step closer to being ready for ice out. 60 ish today allowed me to finish sticking down the Seadek after work. Gap management looks like Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder collaborated on it, but what the heck, it's on there and functional. I'm not putting it on the livewell hatch since it's already raised. I found some skateboard tape that matches pretty close for it. Should have it pretty well buttoned up next weekend. Just in time. I'm seeing some open water under the overpasses at Tappan lake on my commute to work. COUNTING THE DAYS!!!390023368_thumbnail(65).thumb.jpeg.c181b0286e59a87dcb769479baa0a836.jpeg

While another extended period of accumulating snow, sleet, and freezing rain

is sliding across northern Michigan today, it's just about That Time.

With 6 weeks and a wake up until this years 'open water guess date',

the time has come to start looking ahead to see just what these extended weather forecasts have in store.  Clearly the hope is whole lot less of what we've been getting, and just about anything else;

as long as it includes warm rain and night time temps above freezing.

That's almost always the magic sauce.

No doubt the weather roller coaster ride will continue,

and we've had our share of snow in April & even May here,

but I sure would appreciate a little cooperation from Old Man Winter.

I’d love to be excited about this, but it’s only 48 hours. We then get 5 days below freezing, some as low as 13…

I said in another thread, but anyone tried spreading black ashes across the ice to help absorb some heat?

thanks

rick

Yeah not too much longer man!  We will be wetting lines, I see Berlin is at summer pool already up this way.  I am sure they will drop it again before too long for the rest of the rains coming here in the spring.  The boat is looking good man, I am sure you are excited about getting it out for the maiden voyage!

Did you receive any snow yesterday?  I got about 4 inches plus another 1 inch over night.  Its really drifted up in spots because of the wind.

Its REALLY gonna have to start warming up in March if ice out is going to be around the average date in early April.

Right now it's not looking good - Accuweather's long range predictions show a fairly cool run the next month or so.

It was almost 60 yesterday. Thinking about opening the pool…

I've never been real enthusiastic about believing what the weather terrorists say in terms of long term forecasting.  Heck, most times they can't even predict what the weather will be like 5 days from now.  At least some snow will help with the drought we're in when it melts.

No - just northern tier.

Currently at almost 9am - sun is up and it's still -6 with a -21 wind-chill.

Minnesota - what can you do.

We're getting the below zero wind chill here too -

I can totally understand this sentiment.

But if I can manage to hang in there, just a little bit longer . . . .

the reward can be significant . . . .

Thanks for looking out, I appreciate it.

Yeah all those fish look fun!  They don't build them like that here in Ohio unless you want to go play out on Erie, and I am not wanting to do that!  Haha

Yeah we got maybe 3 inches or so...had some sleet underneath it which is always an icy treat. In fact I found such a spot on the sidewalk at work..I promptly slipped and busted my a#$. As if being at work doesn't such bad enough.

people always ask me how can you stand living there? I don't know...you just do. I mean everybody's gotta be somewhere. I grew up outside of Houston so now after living in a town of 2200 people the past 20 years I have no idea how or why anybody would ever wanna live in a city ...but somebody's gotta.

Local rivers and a few creeks are open and high. We had a bunch of rain which melted all the snow. In the 20's the remainder of the week and highs in the 40's starting next week.

I sometimes get asked that too by relatives who live in Arizona or Florida. My response is usually the same every time: let’s talk in July or August when it’s unbearable there and comfortable here.  Gets pretty quiet on their end then.

Really though, the older I get, the more I start to dislike the winter here. I always wondered why all the retirees left in the winter for a southern destination and came back north in April. That’s obvious now.

It's called arthritis.  My arthritis is more accurate than the tv meteorologists in predicting rain and snow.
