Worse yet....idiot who backs down the boat ramp and THEN starts getting the boat ready to launch.

And leave their lights on essentially blinding you so you can't safely back down the other ramp.

Youtubers-COPS called while fishing!! Well yeah, you were trespassing ?‍♂️ and really any clickbait title.   "Caught him off that structure right there!" Points at a brush pile.

It's even worse if you started late on a busy day and had to park what feels like a quarter mile away...

Almost all of the peeves mentioned involve other people so I'm going to say my peeve is people! However I am super-friendly unless someone is a jerk.

In order:

1. litterers

2. poachers, illegal fishing

Looking forward to a day of fishing and having a final tally of ... 0  fish caught.   5 crankbaits lost! Cha-ching. $$$, bye bye.

Fishing pet peeves? hands down that would be the reckless jet skiers.

I don't think there's enough server drive storage to list all of my pet peeves.

Same. It doesn't always come off that way through text, but I'm a gentle giant. I just like being alone. I don't like people pestering me, and I do let out a very quiet sigh when I see that I'm not going to be alone on the water, but when (because it is when, not if) interaction happens I'm friendly. At the end of last summer a grandpa was fishing with his grandson. The grandson had obviously been going down the Googan YouTube rabbit hole, but he wasn't catching fish (hmmm). They saw me slaying bass on a lipless and the grandpa came over to ask what I was doing because they weren't catching anything and he didn't know anything about bass fishing. I explained the lipless bait and how I was retrieving it. He said he'll look to see if his grandson has anything like it in his tackle box. I paid close attention over the course of the next 10 minutes and saw that he did not have a lipless bait. The only thing I had on me that day was my rod and reel and the lipless tied on, nothing else (there are exactly zero snags where I was fishing it so I wasn't worried about it). I bit the line to free my lipless and walked over and gave it to the grandson and left.

And quite often that gesture of kindness feels a whole lot better than catching that fish! Thank you for doing that.

Watching a video on Winter Bass Fishing and they show their graph and the water temps 56 degrees. My Friends, that ain't Winter. Brian.

(cigarrete butts on the water get me really fired and I'm a smoker!)

About the youtube googan vids, I think of them as comedy shows for kids and teenagers featuring some bass fishing, after all there are a lot worst things for them to watch in there than that.

Driving to the lake at 4:00 AM and get behind someone that either has no lights on at all, or just has their headlights on.

Split grip spinning rods?

No fingers in front of the reel foot?

Long fingernails?

Unsealed cork?

;~)

My biggest fishing pet peeve is....me.  Those days when I can't get my head right.  I can't find patterns and I fish "angry".  I'm constantly thinking instead of just reacting to what conditions are giving me and the day becomes a slog.  Or I allow thoughts about work or other issues to intrude.

There's a point when "thought"  becomes over thought and thinking becomes counterproductive. I know the pain! My biggest challenge in that regard is learning how to  turn the brain off and just turn my life on. Be more of a doer than a thinker!

Might make one exception, and that's on a dropshot rod.  But, I've been using the Cal Coast Cali clip on the blank and it works well to hold the weight.

This one is going to be popular ?.

I don’t have many fishing pet peeves but I am developing a new one from some of the advice on this forum.  Are people reading the questions?

Hi, I am new to fishing and want to know what to buy.

Responder

Hey new fisherman, go grab some jigs (literally one of the most difficult techniques for a beginner).  Make sure you use the triple tailed grub smacker with 8 rings and 4 tentacles in blueberry crush color.

I bought some underwear that that are too big, should I keep them?

Reaponder

I have a friend with 3 balls and uses oversized underwear so I would keep them?

People need to read the comments, leave out their personal unicorn experiences, and answer in the best interest of the poster.

Rant done…I feel so much better.

I have a new one ~

Purchasing a "New" reel from a vendor on line,

only to receive an "Open Box".

Meaning not factory sealed.

(Mostly Daiwa & Shimano reels)

Many of them show up missing items, haphazardly repackaged, or are an obvious demo or return.

Last one I got had dog hair in it - like I don't already have enough !

Really irks me.

Happened several times to me the past few years.

Returned EVERY ONE, along with a scathing note/review.

And no vendor, large or small seems immune.

List, describe & yes, sell your demo's, damaged & returned items accurately.

Not as New, because they certainly are Not.

Finally, someone is accepting these things, because vendors keep shipping them.

Please stop with the selling & the accepting.

That is all.

Rant over.

Dog hair can find its way into anything, probably had people working from home packing the boxes

we got a robot vacuum as a wedding gift, it’s wonderful!

but yeah that doesn’t count as a new reel anymore haha. At least they honor your returns (hopefully)

They all did.

Quite easily I might add.

A couple even sent an 'actual' new product.

Still an unnecessary PIA

Another one of the "unfortunates" of our online, detached way of life today. The old brick and mortar, face to face interactions are gone and in its place are the wizards behind the curtain that you never see, never really interact with. This is an open invitation for the scoundrels and scam artists of the world to crawl in and work their dastardly deeds. Sadly, we all get victimized.

People who tell me "_____ doesn't work" when I have dozens of videos of it working.

The litter one is universal, but annoys me to no end it seems.

A big one for me is anglers that cry about the durability of <insert soft plastic here>.

Cheap components on a lure...

Not enough time to fish...☹️

I think it's the same as it's always been, it's just way more visible these days.  Luckily, I work in an environment where we all hold each other accountable via total transparency in what we're working on.  It's a true collaborative team win or failure, whichever the outcome.  We don't waste time with blame when we fail, but spend lots of effort to figure out how to avoid repeating the mistake.  Many of the younger people straight out of college are great at this. I think what we're seeing is more visibility to the breakdowns in accountability through technology like the internet, mobile devices, constant data and feedback in our faces.  It's hard to hide from that.  That said, people that don't do what they say they're going to do, or don't provide a reasonable explanation and a path forward to resolve the situation are still y peeve.

I think a great deal of the problem is relative to the overall population of this country, we probably have similar percentage of unaccountable people, and likely lots of other categories, but when your talking about 10% of a hundred it's one thing, 10% of 10,000 is a much greater problem overall, and since we've more than doubled our population since the first world War, it's becoming harder to find places not rife with it.
