So, I'm interested in hearing from my fellow anglers about a topic we don't hear much about: fishing lures that we refuse to use or will never use again. There are many threads that hype up lures we love to use or have had success using but virtually none (that I know of) that give the ? to lures that just disappoint us time after time. For me it's the jig! I just never get bit. But if I take the jig off and just fish the trailer Texas rigged,  I get bit. So I think ... what's the point. I'll just fish the plastic and leave the jig at home. Yours?

Sadly If you can find a Canadian lake never fished.  Beer can Pull Tabs catch everything. I am going back to 60 and more years..

Wouldn't say ill never try them again but paddle tail swimbaits..ie keitech style...don't catch crap for me. Drop shot is on that list.

I don't have a list of lures I won't use, or one of the lures that I have to have either. A lot of lures have counterparts from other manufacturers that will work just as well. 

Jigs and paddle tails on that list is a little scary though...

Yeah, I know what you're saying about the paddle tail. I've done okay with them but not great. This year I've made a decision that in  2022 I'm going to really try them again. I did buy a Megabass Levante rod just for the paddle tails and jigs. If I fail this time, oh well ... time to put them on the shelf!

I doubt I ever throw a drop shot rig again.  BORING!  I know it works, just not my cup of tea.

I am having a terrible time catching anything on a chatterbait. I throw it a lot and to date I have caught 1 yes 1 bass and I think I hit him on the head with it.  I am leaving for Lake Okeechobee in a couple of weeks where Swimbaits and chatterbaits traditionally do well.  

I believe most bass anglers on this site have low strike detection using jigs. Soft plastics using a sliding weight T-rig doesn’t give the bass any warning it’s not prey resulting in higher strike detection %.

There is always a hot bite from a very active bass to skew results enough to continue using lures you caught a few bass on but the man hours per bass is too high.

Like most bass anglers I prefer using top water lures, it’s exciting visually seeing the strike.

I haven’t used a Chatter bait so don’t know if I like it or not.

Several big swimbaits that I couldn’t catch a cold using. I had 18 8” Hudds  only 3 consistently caught bass for example.

Hand made lures are not equal in strike per hour. Crank baits are notorious for bass catches per hour, keep the lures that work.

Like nearly everyone finesse soft plastics and Senko’s are boring to fish, but....they catch bass consistently when nothing else does.

I think part of the problem (at least for me) is if I don't get a fish within a certain amount of time I give up on that lure and go to one that is a proven winner for me. So, I kind of create my own failure. To really test a lure you need to invest the time necessary to truly measure it's usefulness. Yup, I need patience in that area.

Boy are you right. I started fishing them last year. Nothing. But I won't give up !!

I love this topic because it is what makes fishing so individual and awesome.  This is akin to what's your goto bait in X situation / X condition and the varied responses.  One person cannot get bit on one method while the next person favors that method and vice versa.  If there is one thing I have learned from fishing, visiting this and other sites, find your favorite method and run with it, you'll catch.

 

I however have to jump in on the I will never use a G-Squad product.  I have not seen anything from them that has been truly developed and proven by them, just mimics or questionable tweaks of other products.  I'll give credit where credit is due that they have great marketing but marketing isn't going to put any more fish in my boat.

Night time is the right time starting right after the spawn, and all summer long.

I've told myself "never again" with certain baits, but ended up going on great runs with them after I tried them "one more time", and at times they shouldn't have worked at all. I'd whiffed 100% with the Whopper Plopper for 2 years, but that all changed in early March of '19. While frozen and blanking badly in 42* water I tied one on in desperation and broke the curse. The floodgates opened, and for the better part of the rest of the season I did really well throwing the WP75 in perch. Nearly the same thing happened with the Gantarel jr. and chatter bait.

 

I'll never throw a blade bait or heavy trap from shore into a super shallow muck and filamentous algae bottomed pond. Besides that, nothing's off the table if I can get it through.
