New guy from Texas

Featured Replies

Aside from fishing as a kid 45 years ago, I just bought my first rod and reel a few weeks ago.  I bought it because the kiddo wanted to go, and now I've got the bug.

We've mostly caught Sunfish, with a few catfish and a large mouth bass thrown in.

Welcome!! Great that you will be able to share the fishing journey with your kiddo!

Welcome to BR! Where at in Texas?

Like you, I was out of fishing for years (about 25). Grew up in Maryland and moved to Texas (Conroe-N of Houston) in 2019. Went fishing a few times in my local pond with gear that was 30-50 years old. Caught my PB that was more than twice as big as any bass I ever caught in MD. I now have 8 new rigs, a small boat and tons of tackle lol.

Read and learn here. You will learn so much as changed and mostly for the better. You WILL catch bass!

Yeah, we've had some nice daddy-daughter time.

I only remember a couple of knots, and we've only fished with with bobbers and worms, but we've had a blast.

Hi from the Sunshine State of Fl.

I sorta did the same thing….fished a lot when I was younger, got out of it during the military and a few years after that. When I did pick it back up, thanks to this site, made it so I able to learn a lot.

Thanks, guys!

I just ordered a new rod and reel tonight to replace my $13.99 Academy combo.
