Treble Hook Replacement

Featured Replies

Going to replace some hooks on Rapala DTs and Strike King Pro 4s through Strike King 6xd. What mid prices hook do yall recommend ?  Also short shanked or not?

I know sizes.

These are as hooks get dull.  I have fished several baits all spring and summer that are not as sharp as they use to be.  Id rather replace than sharpen.

When I want the best bang-for-buck - it's Owner ST-36 or ST-41

When I do bulk replacing, it's VMC 9650

Owner st-36 and gammy ewg's are my favorites.  Just ordered some different hooks to try....hooks have gotten better across the board imo.

hooks on DT's damaged?  The provided hooks work fine for me.

Rapala uses VMC treble hooks, Strike King is Mustad, both good hooks. Unless you are going up 1 size no reason to change.

Round bend vs Triple grips, both work. Price VMC and Mustad are less expensive then Owner or Gamakatsu.

Short shank KVDs on the front 36s out back. Idr where but I once read that the 36s were preferable for the back as they are more likely to stick slashing fish that don't actually mouth the lure. Not sure how much truth there is to that but it stuck with me.

I like short shanks on square bills and other shallow cranks, I use EWG's and round bends.  For ewg's I usually use KVD Triple Grips and for round bends I use Gamakatsu Magic Eye short shanks. I always go up a size with short shanks, otherwise what's the point?

For deeper divers and topwater I don't normally use short shanks. I like Gamakatsu EWG and Owner ST 36. I don't put EWG's on topwaters, only round bends.
