Well, after several months, family health crisis and uncooperative weather I have finally got back to my project Sportspal Canoe.

Yesterday I was able to get the Topside top color painting done. It takes 5 days to cure before flipping it over and getting the bottom painted with the super slick Wetlander 3 Part Kit

The color is “Sealskin” which is a greenish gray. I like it!

Got the Wetlander finish done on the bottom, finally! Supposed to let it harden for 5-7 days before use. The color is a bit different than the topside color but is close enough (they are both called Seal Skin but there is definitely a difference ).

I just received the foam liner and foam sponson kit, so I have that to put in which will finish it up.

Better pictures to come when it’s all together.

Picture looks great, and I’m sure we’ll see some more possibly with you holding up a big ole bass. And welcome @Katemeister to Bass Resource and the Forums!

I have an Old Town Loon 126 but considering getting an upgrade to an Old Town PDL.  May even sell my bass boat since I use the kayak more than it. Only draw back is the weight, I am over 70 and not as easy to toss heavy things around as it used to be.

2-3mph average. Is that fast, slow, normal?

I have a FeelFree Lure 11.5 w/ their pedal drive.  I average 3 - 3 1/2 mph pedaling normally.

Thank You. I figured it was slow, however, its the same width for most of it's length and a flat bottom.

You won’t think of it as slow after getting out on it a few times and being able to back up or turn to adjust position.

It probably weighs more than my Lure & that small a prop isn’t moving much water for that size a boat.

Well as posted Here and documented throughout this thread I have finally finished the Sportspal canoe project.  It started November 11th of 2023 when I bought it off Facebook for really, really cheap. I started work and quickly had it stripped and ready for paint,,,,,thennnn.

My Wife was diagnosed with Cancer and our priorities changed, immensely! She has undergone several surgeries and six chemotherapy rounds and is now in remission, thank you very much! This is the first post or mention of this here and not looking for this to turn into “the conversation” but just as a reason on why it has taken me a year to get this done.

I thank you all and appreciate your sympathies and concern and only ask for Prayers if you can.

Anyway, here it is and tomorrow is the maiden voyage and we’re looking forward to an exciting Fall fishing season.

Wish me luck 😆

Awesome job and it's great to hear about your wife being in remission. If you want a good laugh, a long time ago a friend of mine bought a used and beat up aluminum john boat that needed quite a few patches. After completing all the patch work he realized the howling error he made. He used pop rivets for the patches. Essentially he made the worlds largest spaghetti colander. Disgusted, he cut it all up and trashed it. ......

Correct, the first trip out, had issues with the transom drive unit, I turned around and addressed the issue, turned back around, then realized what I'd done! At NO point did I feel like I was going over the side.

Do you know of a different prop to use?

No, sorry, I don’t. Contact the drive’s manufacturer and see if they offer different size/pitch props.

Best of luck with it.

Upgraded from my 07 Stratos 176XT to this 25' Vexus AVX 1980 with a 25' Zuke Stealth, and Garmin electronics... Got a 12 Ultra 2 at the console, and will be adding 2 10 Ultras that have been sitting in their box for about a year on the bow attached to a BBT hood offset mount. Took it out yesterday for the first time after sitting in my garage for a month. What a massive upgrade in size and storage. The knew v2 front decks are massive, there is so much space at the very front of the deck. We had no problem moving around with three people. Sucks I couldnt do a full send on the motor because of the break in period. Over all we're happy with it.

Congrats on your new ride @boostr, great looking boat! I just got to ask, what are your thoughts on the Suzuki? I know from personal experience it’s really nice not having to buy two stroke oil and most four strokes in my neck of the woods are running Mercs or Yammy’s.

I haven't let it rip yet, but it is way quieter than what my Merc 50 2 stroke was. I also like the fact its a reliable motor. And it looks awesome. Tbh, I probably would of gone with a Yami or Merc if Suzuki didn't come out with this bass boat specific model line, but since they did, and from reading and watching reviews I made up my mind to go with the Suzuki. Also speed wasn't really a factor either even though they're known to be a little slower than the other 2 brands. I'm coming from a 50 hp motor so I know I will be going way faster plus I dont really have anything else to compare it to in that 150hp range so its good enough for me.

@boostr the color is badass.  I like that gray/gunmetal.

I was gonna go with midnight oil (black) to match my truck, but would of gotten really hot, and I didnt want white, red or blue so I went with metallic gray... Best of both worlds, will not get mega hot and it still looks good attached to my black truck. The flat Zuke Stealth with the black gloss lettering looks pretty rad on that boat too.

I completely agree.  If I buy a new boat it'll be in that gray color too.  My truck is similar color (smoke) with gunmetal rims.

Well there you go!

@Motoboss, every time I see pictures of how well your project boat turned out, I just think how it looks like a war canoe or Viking longboat minus the shields. Very cool boat and I hope you enjoy many years of good fishing with it.

Thanks @J._Bricker ! Patience and hard work does pay off.

Absolutely, many times over in this thread and as with your boat the pride in a job well done shows through!
