^This^  The other options are learn to tie a good leader knot, or don't use braid. The Alberto with an extra wrap or two though the loop before cinching has never failed me. It's also easy to tie with just a bit of practice. I don't use leaders much, but I will sometimes use a short mono leader when fishing deep rock, just to make breaking off easier.

 

 

I don't use much braid, but when I do I use a trilene knot.   IF the line is in good shape the knot will break a few pounds under the strength of the line.   

Now I’m more interested in what happens to the line if you use straight anything…. Seems using a leader that was less lbs would help keep the integrity of the main line but I guess I’ve never seen any topic on it. Maybe if I tag it with # big game I’ll get more answers lol

I use the fj for all my leaders, and I never make them so long that they get spooled.

I have had a few slip out but only when I have suntan lotion on my hands when I tie them.

When part of my mono leader breaks off I check it for knicks but I'm not worried about "overstretching" 

I use straight braid on all moving baits and can't remember the last time I had a break off.

Only fish from a boat so usually a simple re-position frees the bait.

 

The few times that I had to break straight braid, just used the net handle.

I have a small piece of 1" hardwood dowel with a 1/4" piece of dowel inserted perpendicular through it. A couple of wraps and a figure-8 around the small dowel and yank.

apparently the standard procedure for bank fisherman is to leave 3-5 miles of braid on land and in the water. Then for some extra flare leave a shirt and a sock on top of the braid

I have raised four boys, diapers don't scare me. Public toilets do though. 

IMO from the bank, braid is a pretty rough go for this very reason. Put a leader on it. Practice the leader knot enough that you know what a well-tied one looks like. 

 

Double uni is about bulletproof to tie, maybe start there unless you are really good with knots. 

 

Albright/alberto and its variants are all over youtube and pretty easy but make sure you watch a couple of different videos to pick up tricks. They work reasonably well and you'll be able to tell if the knot isn't right. 

 

FG knot really isn't that hard to tie once you get the hang of it, as long as you can maintain the right amount of tension. But it's fiddly while you learn it, and it'll take some real time. I tied it a bunch watching TV. Same deal, watch a few videos to pick up little details like tugging really hard on the first two knots as you begin the finishing stage. Best connection knot by far, but a bit of a curve to get it right. Don't start here.
