Noticed that TW sells bearing oil as well as reel oils.

 

The bearings oils they have are:

 

1.  Ardent reel bearing lube

2. Boca bearing oil lightning high seed bearing lube

3. Lew's hyperspeed bearing lubricant

 

Is one better than the other? I'm trying to find one that is similar to the Shimano bearing oil that was supplied with my Curado BFS reel.

 

Or will a reel oil like the Quantum Hot Sauce work on bearingdls as well, especially BFS reel bearings?  I've used Quantum Hot Sauce oil for years on my reels and bearings. Not sure if BFS reels like the Aldeberan BFS and Conquest BFS need a different type of bearing oil than reel oil.

I'd get some Oust Metol or TSI 321. I never tried the Boca oil. The other ones listed aren't that great. 

TSI 321 once again.  It's worked great on my Aldebaren BFS, Calcutta BFS, and Curado BFS.

The Boca oil is good. It’s my standard for service. 321 is what I use in SuperTuned reels and best for your application. A bottle will last you 3 lifetimes. The Boca oil will work though. Don’t be afraid of it if it’s handy. 

The Boca oil is similar to the oil in the Shimano box @ghost, at least in my mind cause that’s what I’ve been using on my reels for a while now.

World record casting championships have been won with 3 N 1.  Similar in viscosity to Yellow Rocket fuel.  

 

you all talking about that tiny white plastic squeeze bottle of oil that comes with a Shimano reel?

 

I think I have enough to lube anything at this point.  i don't use it.  i just use garden variety Lucas. mostly because I think the needle tipped squeeze bottle is cool as F.

Interesting,.... I had no idea ReelX was lower viscosity than the Abu oil. I use the Abu oil on most of my reels, but have used ReelX on sone of the shaft bearings thinking it was thicker than the Abu. I now know differently.

Hey Darth, I'm actually talking about the bearing oil that was included when I bought the Curado BFS reel a couple years ago. The Shimano reel oil was also included.

i have that reel.  i dont remember a bearing oil.  mmmm..

The TSI 321 oil however comes in a 4 fl. oz bottle. I think it is way more than anyone will ever need for reel maintenance, and at $20. Is there any other use for this oil? Maybe for firearms or lubrication of other things other than fishing? I think a multipurpose use will help justify the cost.

I don't know if they still do, but Tackle Trap used to sell smaller 1oz bottles. I ordered a 1oz bottle from them before they moved.

I got a 1oz 321 on ebay.

I been using ReelX grease and oil and I have been very happy with the results.

 

I've been using the same 1 oz bottle of Hot Sauce for over 20 years and it's 1/4 empty.  A scant drop on each spool bearing is what I use.  Spinning reels and the rest of bait casters get synthetic 10-30 or corrosion X.  Gears get grease mixed with corrosion X.

Save your time mixing oil in with grease. Your grease will provide corrosion protection, probably beyond what the oil will do. 

FYI Smoooth Drags, Inc. sells all the lubricants Cals Gear grease and TS321 ( 1 oz bottle) and State of the Art drags washers.

Definitely.  Especially since grease is just oil mixed with what they call "soap".  And some greases and oils are "incompatible" and don't react well together.  Certain oils can break down certain greases over time.  It's probably not a problem you'll run into on a reel, but why chance it if there's no benefit to be had?  

i’ve been using the lucas reel oil last couple of years.  seems like that stuff evaporates out preatty quick.  

 

last spring when my brother had me do his okuma classic and cold water trolling reels i put straight rear end 90 weight in the bearings after flushing.  i’d like to get a hold of them this spring to see how it did. those are trolling reels though and arnt casted.  

 

i know there are guys that swear by yamaha lower unit 90 weight gear oil.  which, makes sense as it would have anti corrosion additives in it.  

 

i think this coming spring i’m going to buy a hodgepodge of reel oils and gear lube and see what works.  lucas makes a red gun oil that is fairly thick and does not evaporate.  i have some of that on hand. its not much more than reel oil. 

 

i had been using the pen blue grease on gears which, i think is just blue lithium grease however, that stuff turns into basically sticky cosmolien pretty quick. i definitely want to try the cals gear grease.  i’ll end up servicing 10-15 reels this spring so i should have enough variety
