Depending on what part of the country you are located in - your April best bass lures may vary ... What are yours in the bass waters you fish for April ?

So far this April it's been Texas rigged beaver baits, swim jigs, spinner baits and lastly frogs!

April for me begins in the cold-water period and moves into prespawn. Water is usually 40s, maybe just getting into 50s by the end of the month.

In the rivers, I can usually get a few on a tube, grub or paddle-tail swimbait

In lakes, a jerkbait first, then once we warm a bit, it's time to try a vibrating jig or spinnerbait. 

 

Bass can’t read and human calendar means nothing, it’s all about warming water temps between 60-67 degrees for LMB to spawn,

April here is usually post spawn, this cold year the bass are starting to spawn..

Again I don't have spring lures, summer lures, fall lures, or winter lures. I have bass fishing lures!

 

Now I do have summer, winter, spring, & fall locations. 

 

Southwest Louisiana & Southeast Texas is late spawn to post spawn. Pretty much everything is in play but the Frog bite is gradually increasing. A warm winter has some vegation close to matting out...enter the punch rig. 

Swim jigs, spinnerbaits, speed craws and Zoom lizards.

 

where do I start? worms..traps..squarebills..frogs..Devils Horse.......mostly worms.

Spinnerbait in the vegetation.

April is prime time big bass month for me up here in New England. Well March is too but April is far better.  I’m very specific where and when I fish. The herring show up in force to my spots. Think of trout stocking but this is pure natural.  The herring run up from the ocean and the bass know it. Only time of year you’ll see multiple giants congregate. It happens every year but not long. Mid April to May is the prime time!  
 

when I’m on a herring bite I’m strictly fishing big soft baits and glide baits! That’s it. Hard fishing but it’ll get me my giants! 
 

Other than that, I’m throwing jigs,  t rigs, chatterbaits, swim jigs,  jigs, big swimbaits, glides, soft baits wake baits.  Fish are usually aggressive and shallow! So that’s where I’m going!  But to be honest when my spots are on a herring bite that’s where I’m going. I don’t normally fish else where when it’s game time. This year I might switch up though! Instead of focusing on just 2 bodies of water, add a few more to the list(non herring run places) but they still got giants.  
 

This year we had 10 inches of rain in March the bite has sucked for me! That’s the problem with March, a good warm dry March bite is great, cold wet March it’s sucks. Thank god for April when the weather switches.  This year April will be good!  They are in full pre spawn mode.  I do believe some of these real big fish spawn early. That’s the ones I’m targeting in April! That’s why I don’t use the usual spinnerbaits  cranks and what knot. I go jigs and swimbaits 90% of the time

Be honest Southwest Louisiana only has summer and a hotter summer.🤣

What about small mouth Tom ? Up in NorCal what temps are small mouth apt to begin the spawn ?

I cannot target a bass in April here but if I was able to, a jerk bait would be my first choice.

 

The colder the water, the longer the pause.

Around 58 degrees (cooler then LMB ) and look for gravel areas mixed with sand.

April is the tail end of pre spawn here.  Early April is tail end of prime square bill bite most years.  Chatter bait does damage until the fish really get bedded up, then mojo, t and neko rigs get lots of work.

April means ice out and the couple weeks proceeding around here. During  this time jigs and spinnerbaits do most of the damage for me.

I did pull out the lipless just for kicks and caught a dink and a big sunfish so it's still working.  Haven't fished bladed jig yet this year but I am planning on adding it back to the rotation this year after a year off.  It caught me a ton of big fish in 22'.

I've been out a handful of times here in Nebraska...water temps finally in to the 50's.

 

Concentrating on jerk-baits, spinner-baits, chatter-bait, jig-n-craw. Busted out the old beetle spin and put three fish in the boat yesterday.

April is the prime time to bass fish here in Central Florida.  The big cold fronts are done, the water is warming and the summer heat has not arrived.  In my home Lake Eustis, you are can parallel the shoreline cover with a spinnerbait and catch bass all day.  Hard to find a lure that won't catch bass in April.

I see on TV (Bass Elite - St. Johns River) a lot of pros pitching to bedding fish in Central Florida .

Bass are not spawning yet in Wisconsin. 
I’ve been doing well on Rapala cranks

( og mini 4, og squarbill, and bx brat) and the last few days on TR bandito bug.

They are targeting big fish because that's what wins tournaments.  Personally, I don't fish bass on beds.  I also do not handle bass or bring them into the boat unless it can't be avoided.
