I found a golf ball retriever at the Goodwill for four bucks. It telescopes to 12 feet and is aluminum.  I modified the end so I can slip the line into the loop.  One bait save and it’s paid for itself. Anything deeper and the plug knocker gets used. 

The cheapskate, DIY guy inside me likes this a lot!

i ain't never heard of no golf ball retriever........... how many golf balls would a guy have to plunk to make that thing worthwhile? unless it's stationed permanently at the pond.....  looks like a great find. i love thrift store finds.  it's like free money.

Pro V1 balls are $5 ea

 

And it's a lot easier to shank a ball into the water than it is to get a lure hung up! LOL 😆

uh, so what is more expensive, golfing or chasing the lmb?  i assumed that shanking a ball into a water hazard was not that common....  but never played the game.

I keep a telescopic light bulb changer in the boat to get co-angler lures out of trees.

How long is a piece of string? LOL 😆 Either can be as cheap or as expensive as you want.

 

And I've seen water hazards with as many balls in it as pennies in a wishing fountain..

When I was a kid I made money for fishing equipment by finding lost golf balls and reselling them. The rich private courses were the best place to find golf balls.

I make these and they work great. Use a cable tie to attach the swivel to the sinker.

 

I had one of these for 20+ years. Finally broke the tip.

 

 

Went with Frabill this time around. Works well...already paid for it self in saved lures.

 

 

 

I am rarely ever fishing deeper than 12-14'

When my homemade plug knockers don't get the job done, I turn to my Frabill as well.

I have one just like that I use I've sold the rest of my golf stuff.

So did I originally...but ran out of old spark plugs, hence version 2.0 of my lure knocker 😉👍
