Reading the Triline 4lb mono thread, my question to you all is what 4lb mono do you like and use?

Back in the day I used Stren, but haven't used 4lb in years.

I brought Sunline Super Natural 4lb and I'm not impressed with it at all, I can grab it and break it with very little force with my hands (Chuck Norris I'm not)

Trilene XL. 

5 lb Maxima Ultra Green is the same diameter as 4 lb Trilene XL; .008D, with superior knot and abrasion strength then 6 lb XL.

I’m currently using Kastking monofilament in both chrome blue and rebel red in 4 pound test. Although the blue color faded really fast it hasn’t affected the performance, the red color has held up extremely well. I also bought a spool of fluorokote in 4 lb test a handful of years ago and haven’t had any issues yet. I’m not sure what you’re fishing for but I’m fishing small retention ponds for bluegill, crappie and small bass for what it’s worth. 

There's nothing wrong with 4 lb Trilene. That member was having issues with the small diameter of thin line when he was trying to tie knots and not the actual brand itself, yet opted to blame the brand. Any light line would have been the same.

 

Personally, I really like 4 lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid, although that's not exactly a monofilament line.

I keep two light spinning rods rigged with 4 lb Trilene XL all season. I use them for crappie, bream, and stocked trout around late November.

If you’re buying mono, you have to consider the diameter, not the stated breaking strength. Stren 4lb is about 0.008”. If that’s your baseline, you need to compare that against sunline supernatural in 6 lb. Sunline uses Japanese diameters and the stated breaking strength is the actual breaking strength. American mono makers are typically rated far lower than the actual breaking strength.

 

I’m a fan of supernatural generally. I fish 6lb on my all purpose trout rod and all the way up to 16lb on others. I haven’t gone to 4lb yet because I only use it on my ultralight trout rod and I love the line on it which is P-line C21. It tracks about the same diameter as supernatural. Very limp, ties a great knot. It’s been the best ultralight line I’ve fished and if I didn’t fish braid for bass that’s what I’d use. 

I like Sufix Siege  or Elite 4 pound mono. they are both strong and smooth. 

use a palomar knot with them. 

I haven't used 4lb in a long time but I use to use XL or BPS" mono for my kids set ups. I never had an issue with them. 

 

For myself, I like 5lb or 6lb fluorocarbon.  I use 5lb Sunline Invisible on BFS gear and 6lb Seaguar Invizx on one spinning setup.  I do run the Invizx under warm water before fishing it. It helps avoid that initial release of it being tightly wound.  

 

I also use 6lb Runcl Power Fluoro.  It's actually smaller in diameter than some 4lb. It's similar to PLine Fluoroclear but maybe a little better. I've been pleased with it so far.

I don't use 4# line unless I'm specifically targeting panfish.  Either Trilene XL or BPS line.  A 250 yard spool will last me all season.
