Arctic blast is coming

In about a week, an arctic blast is going to engulf most of the country. Even here in GA the temperatures are going to be in the teens with wind chills in the single digits. Frankly, I’m already tired of the winter cold.

As it turns out, my first GA Bass Nation kayak tournament is scheduled for the 11th when the weather is going to be frigid.

Worse yet, it’s on Lake Lanier which is a notoriously dangerous lake. I’m going to pass on this event. The cold only compounds the danger.

Lanier is a spotted bass lake where you normally fish brush piles in open water. I can’t imagine doing that in frigid, windy weather. I’m too old for that.

Yep that blast of cold air arrived today here. The high was 19 and it’s supposed to gradually get colder for the next 10 days. Our lakes are frozen solid though, so it’s kind of a moot point now.

They’re talking about it here in SE Arkansas too. I hate cold weather. Used to love it, now if it’s below around 40 I’m out.

South West Missouri isn’t looking real good either

Don’t blame ya , too cold for kayak at that point (for me personally). Some folks do it with no problem, I only fish off the bank when it’s below 32 ish. I will launch a motor boat down into the teens, but typically only if the temp will rise above freezing during the day.

A few days ago my favorite place to fish was iced over completely, so to the river i went.

The whole distance i could cast from the boat launch was iced over too, 4' from where my bait could land was open water....

The past few days weve had were in the 40s-60s so the lake was open yesterday and the ice was gone, i was beyond happy i could fish it.

And now this will plunge the entire thing back to the ice age.

Times like this i would make a joke to my parents how i should be down south fishing instead, i guess this artic blast will be powerful enough to make this joke no longer valid. Hard to comprehend it will even be that cold in the southern states.

Going out today to pull all my gear out of the boat to re-tool for my upcoming trip to Headwaters at the end of the month.  We take my partners boat pulled by my truck, so I’ll throw 100 bags of Senkos and a few rods in the truck.  We are supposed to get frigid with possible snow/ice.

I’m more of a Glacial Freeze or Lemon-lime kinda guy.

It's going to be above average temps in my neck of the woods, hovering right around 50.  Overall, it's been an unusually warm winter so far.

@Glenn it was cold in Oregon last night.

I’ve learned my lesson with them.  It never fails they are hot on the color you only brought 3 bags of and the fact you never know which color it is going to be.  I have a solid 10 colors for Florida and 10 bags for each color.  Throw in some chatterbait trailers, swim jigs, big worms and Ned rig baits and I have all I really need.  Last year the Senko bite was off the hook and they really preferred one color.  Also, I’m packing for 2 of us.  😉

Just be careful on the roads.  Icy roads don't have friends and favorites.  You might feel your driving skillz are legit, but the dude without insurance and an expired license doesn't.  And he'll ruin your day.

Get your stuff done now and stay home if you can.

Man is it windy here today. West to east. Just ushering in the cold air from the Midwest.

I appreciate all you Midwesterners for sharing but ..... I'm good thank you ... :)

I kind of feel vindicated in this thread.  When we get searing hot/humid weather in the summer, its miserable and I feel like complaining.

With a cold blast heading south, its almost like payback for sending your southern summer time weather up north.

Great photo @A-Jay! I’ve got two dogs that love snow/cold and one that hates it so it’s a revolving door sometimes.

we have 44 degrees this afternoon so I’m going canoeing

Thanks ~

Miss Fenway certainly loved the snow.

But it was in her DNA.

Stay Safe in the canoe my friend.

OK - now it’s calling for snow flurries here in GA on Friday.

Was -10 wind chill here this morning... Coldest temp of the winter thus far. We've had no measureable snowfall at though, last winter I bet we had 25 inches by now.
