Need a scale

Featured Replies

I’m looking for a small digital scale with a lip clop on it. Not the hook. I was curious what everyone’s using. Don’t need anything fancy just want something better than my luggage scale lol

Been using the Accu Cull Digital Scale 55lb for several years.

Replaced the hook hanger with a small Rapala Fish Grip.

It gets some use.

I've always measured my fish, don't have a "fishing" scale myself.

I searched my basement the other day as I knew I had a nice scale. Found it.

The main problem is that it isn't waterproof.

Nice accurate scale though. I'd either weigh the fish in my net or a weigh in bag.

I probably just need to buy a fishing scale myself that is waterproof. I can see this thing getting ruined my first trip.

See same here. I tried a luggage scale and found it to be a pain and it’s not water proof. I’ve always measured fish as well. But was kicking around the idea about a cheap scale I can put in my bag

That's the problem. I think the "cheap" ones aren't very accurate/reliable.

At least that's what it seems when I read reviews.

Hard to find a scale with good reviews.

I can see that. Maybe I’ll just stick to my measuring tape lol

I still have my Rapala scale from 15 years ago.  I never use the hook. I just zero it with a fish clamp and it works great. Never hurts a fish and it holds them more securely.

There were some good suggestions in this thread:

I had a KastKing scale from Amazon that worked fine. Upgraded to a $50 Rapala scale and that worked fine. Now I have one of the fancy Bubba Scales and it works fine.

I've decided I'm going to measure and weigh.

I have absolutely zero idea how much some of my largest bass have weighed. No clue.

I couldn't tell you if I've caught a 4 lb bass.

I'm getting pretty "serious" about fishing now, the most ever. It's time I want to see " and lbs.

I did the same as ajay, but with the Rapala scale.  It comes with a hook, but I had a clip from something else.  They might offer it with a clip now.  $40 or so on TW and it's never given me a problem.

Why do you need a lip clip? A hook works just fine, right everybody ?

Skunkmaster, I presume you are trying to make a joke????

I went through several scales and they were either junk from the beginning, or were ruined from even the slightest amount of dampness.  I finally bought the one MLF was using a couple years ago ( believe $100) and I never take it out of a zip lock bag unless I use it.  So far so good.

Some people have a strong relationships with the bait monkey.  I have an ongoing friendship with the scale monkey.  I have 3 scales in my boat.  I keep a 6# Chatillon scale on the deck while I'm fishing.  I weight just about every fish I catch with it.  If the fish weights more than 6# then I pull out my Brecknell ElectroSamson digital scales for an accurate weight.  Then there's the concern that the digital scale might fail while I'm trying to weigh my new personal best.  That's why I carry a 12# Chatillon as a third backup.  It's only accurate to 2 ounces but it will do in a pinch.  I'm thinking I need to start carrying a 4th higher capacity scale in case I catch a world record drum or something.  🤪

Pretty accurate?

Thought about buying but apparently it’s not waterproof.

Being in a kayak I can definitely see it getting wet.

Bubba Lite accurate and Water resistant for use on the water, weighs to 60 lbs.

For measuring Bass length in a kayak a Bump board is fast and accurate.

It is accurate to 1/4 oz and I’ve checked it with calibration weights.  It’s not waterproof and from what I’ve read in reviews,  a heavy fog can kill it.    I haven’t had a problem but I take care of mine and only bring it out for big fish.

I really like the new Rapala Scale.

Only my third year fishing - first two years I measured with an aluminum ruler - this year I bought a Ketch aluminum measuring board and a luggage scale - I measure most fish (12" or longer) and weight those that are 16" or longer - yesterday I caught a 17" LMB that was 3.14 lb on the scale (it was thick/healthy and heavier than I expected as most of the other 17" LMB I have caught have been in the 2.7 lb range) - perhaps for next year I will check out some sales and purchase one of the scales people here have mentioned (I do not tournament fish so I don't need anything too fancy)

I use this one. I mostly measure my fish though. Only occasionally will I weigh them. It was 25 bucks when I bought it about 5 years ago. Looks like the price has doubled.

Please consider weighing only the bass that exceed your previous longest or a fish you believe weighs  more. Over handling bass leads to post mortality and I don’t believe you want to kill the bass just to satisfy a static’s.
