Sure was, but he doesn’t call it cheating. He said that he just forgot about the rule. That was in today’s video. Yesterday he said that he was unaware of the rule? Typical

Can someone explain what the violation was?

First off, Randy made the top 25 cut. Apparently in the Toyota Series you’re not allowed to talk to people below the cut after the weigh in. I wouldn’t know as I refuse to have anything to do with mlf. I digress, Randy spoke to a buddy that didn’t make the top 25 cut after the weigh in and it was reported. The tournament director DQ’d him the next day.

Yesterday, in his video announcing the DQ Randy said that he was unaware of the rule. Seems that Todd Castledine called him out on the DQ and Randy felt compelled to do a rebuttal video today. That’s when he said that he forgot about the rule. Folks are roasting him on his own YouTube channel for forgetting a rule that he was unaware of.

^ It's Randy....that explains a lot.

Watch (or not in my case) for his next vid where he whines about MLF being unfair.

Will post a video tomorrow saying its MLFS fault for not banning live scope so they "made him" cheat to compete

  • Super User

Well...he did post a video a while back that said the rules all suck...lol

  • Super User

^ Then why does he even sign up to compete?

^ Can I smash his camera instead?

Love him, or hate him...he certainly has cracked the code...and is getting people to watch his videos.

Hmmmm...maybe he got DQ'd intentionally...to get more clicks.

True.

He also gets as many or more mentions here on BR as any other pro

I watched his admission video and it seemed like a pretty honest mistake given the circumstances.

These no info rules can be tough.  A buddy was under a no info rule for one of his tournaments recently and he had to start every conversation with "don't talk to me about the Potomac!!!" When all your close friends are fellow tournament anglers, it can be tough to navigate....Since 90% of our conversations are fishing related.

I'm not defending or accusing anyone of anything, but it seemed like Randy owned up to it and accepted the consequences.  The point made about "how many other tournaments has this happened" is a valid question though.  Looking at the circumstances though, IMO this one is a technicality and not "cheating".

@Logan S, I agree with you, he simply broke a rule. That’s not cheating in every circumstance. What I don’t get is him saying he unaware of  the rule one day and the next day he’s saying he forgot about it. He forgot about a rule that he was wasn’t aware of?

I checked this morning, looks like someone has been deleting a bunch of comments.

I mean I haven't watched all the videos, but at some point people are probably getting too nerdy with the semantics.  Unaware, forgot, whatever... Been a while since he's made a final day so it's not something he's had to worry about.

Heck I 'know' the rule too but I guarantee you if I make the day 2 cut at a BFL Super that reminder would come in handy.  When you fish a tournament and have friends in the field too literally the first thing you do when you get off the water is start talking about the fishing...Not in an "info" sort of way just a normal, excited conversation about what was going on, how you did etc... There would be a point during that day when that would go from totally fine to getting you DQ'd

Randy puts himself out there in plenty of ways to draw legitimate criticism...So kicking him when he's down after an otherwise good tournament is a little much (IMO of course).

Randy Blaukat was a name few in the fishing world remembered until he realized that you can get people to pay attention to you by saying something controversial.  Take a look at the number of views each of his videos have gotten.  The ones about fishing are not very popular.  The ones where he is complaining about something have far more views.

The social media companies have realized that people are more likely to watch something/click on something that makes them angry so that's what they try to show us.  If we can all just ignore this stuff then maybe these companies will stop trying to drive us all insane.

Well, At least he didn’t get DQed from a the tournament, just the final day so he still cashed a decent check.

Ummm - maybe not.
