I asked the dealer about it and they said there was no way to disable it.

My 2 y.o. 4runner can turn it off using mode button 🤷‍♂️

Typical.  Good luck with that.

Funny, in my 2016 High Country, the “automatic high beams” are called adaptive headlights and I have to turn it on with the column stalk.  I’d trade all of the gadgets for a reliable engine/transmission.  Seems like all of them have a planned expiration date.

I agree with @TOXIC. Throw all that extra electronic crap that is going to break or is already useless and give me a reliable vehicle that starts and runs everytime I need it. All the bells and whistles will not help move you down the road without a good powertrain.

Give me a 4wd truck or SUV with either a 4 speed manual or 3 speed with overdrive tranny, power steering, power brakes, power windows, and AC. Or even just ps, pb, and ac....Keep all the other gadgets. Make it durable, and affordable....you know, like trucks USED to be.

I’ve worked on almost everything since the late ‘80’s. Today’s cars have too much technology and not enough reliability.

I drive a base ‘17 Tundra. I’m keeping it until further notice ….

Exactly.  I traded in a 2004 3/4 ton Silverado for my 2016 High Country and I feel like my truck has just enough bells and whistles (heated/cooled seats, Android Auto for WAZE, Sirius XM, Bluetooth for phone, lane assist, park assist and a few more) but not so many to be problematic.  Now if the motor and transmission will hold up, I’m golden.  I’m a maintenance junky so fingers crossed.  I’m at 108k now and getting ready for a winter drive from Virginia to Kansas City for Christmas.

My daily driver is a 2005 Honda Accord...LX, 4cylinder, 5 speed auto.

It has AC, PS, PB, cruise, PW, PL, cloth seats, and a CD player : )

Has 150k miles...still running strong.

It has everything that I need...and knocks down 30 MPG every tank.

Auto manufactures should stop making electric vehicles. And discontinue the auto-start-stop feature. Annoying.

@Rockhopper I will check it out again when I have a chance.  It's a 2024 Rav4 Hybrid.

Looks like on yours when you turn on cruise with the button on the steering wheel that looks like a speedometer with a car symbol next to it...instead of just tapping the button for on, press and hold for 1 sec and it will turn on constant speed mode.

Tap on for adaptive, press and hold for constant.

The green light on the dash should display the speedometer symbol without the car next to it at that point.

That's a tough pill to swallow knowing how much today's cars cost.  I've driven Japanese cars/trucks since '91 and in that time I've had only two minor repairs, both covered under warranty.

I actually like my adaptive cruise control. While it can be a pain in highway traffic, it's great on these rural Georgia roads. I take a lot of back roads, and a lot of these small towns have up and down speed limits. Having my sensors read the speed limit signs and automatically slowing me down has probably saved me a few tickets. I can also set it to automatically cruise at X miles above or below the posted limit.

At my last house, I didn't have a garage. So, in the winter it was great top open up an app on my phone, remote start the vehicle, and get those seat warmers going.

I like the sensors on the rear of the vehicle that warn me of cross traffic when I back out of a parking spot. I can take or leave the rear camera. Oddly enough, if I try to use that camera to back my kayak trailer down the ramp, I just can't do it. But if I grab the passenger seat and look over my shoulder I can back down the ramp at speed.

I like my Apple CarPlay and I prefer Apple maps over the built in Ford nav system or Google maps.

I like that my cargo space area has a place for me to plug in a power inverter.

As someone whose first car was a fairly new, 1975 4-door Dodge Dart, I like the conveniences of modern day cars.

My '12 Tundra alternator just took a crap.  Been watching videos on how to replace it.  I am very good mechanically.  I have anxiety now.

Took it out tonight. Only took 3 hours. 🙄  Had to pretty much disassemble the entire passenger side of the front of the motor and fender well. That thing is buried in there deep.

Will install new one tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Remember when they used to just sit here?

Well only two hours going back in. But then the truck wouldn't run correctly. Spent two more hours figuring it out. Who knew I had to drive it for 20 minutes for the computer to relearn how to idle correctly.  Really hate new cars. :wall3:

@Rockhopper yeah, sometimes they are too smart for their own good.

My buddy is coaxing me into a new truck and sent me an article that GM redesigned the 5.3 in the Silverado for 2026 and eliminated the lifter problem.  Went into depth on all of the changes to the block and components explaining it finally made sense to them since repair costs and public opinion were costing them more than a redesign.  I’m not a first year adopter so if it can perform for a couple of years (or less) with good reviews, I might be tempted.

Ah, a thread dear to my heart! My 2005 Dodge Ram QC 1500 4x4 shows the years spent during winters in Maryland. Yeah, it’s got rust. And it’s got several minor things like a loose driver’s control panel on the door, a courtesy light that functions when the doors are opened but the on/off microswitch is broken and the windshield wipers will move if you pick one up to get leaves off the window lol. But I haven’t made a payment on it since 2011 (bought it in 2007), and after 178K on the odo, it runs like a top.

Manual 4WD shifter, no fancy-schmancy electronics. Still has a seegar lighter lol. I’m driving it until one of us is dead.

60, I never had a vehicle that had ANY of these features...  Until I did...  and now, I LOVE every one of them. (with the exception of TPMS...LOL)

I do still have a 2007 F150 with automatic transmission and manual window crank.  I still look to my blind spots in my feature loaded vehicle (even though the warning light "warn" me) so as to not forget to look whilst driving my truck.
