Small Scale For BFS Lures

Got a new 50gr scale for BFS lures to keep it in tackle bag for weighing lures if I am not sure about weight of the. So far looks good and semi water resistant material so I know it can be use under rain as well. Got the brighter color but they have other colors available as well.50gr was plenty enough for me, But they have them up to 200gr as well.

I've been carrying one in my big tackle bag for a while now.  You can find them at your local smoke shop and behind the counter at seedier convenience stores.  It turns out tobacco smokers send a lot of over stuffed letters and are real sticklers for correct postage.  Passionate philatelists - that lot.

You better be able to account for your finances if you carry that thing around.

I use this Frankford Arsenal scale for weighing lures.

I originally got it to weigh bullets for my catalog, but I use it for weighing lures and sinkers, as well as cartridge cases, loaded cartridges, bullets, and occasionally powder. It will weigh in various measurements, but I mostly use grains.

I verified it against my RCBS 505 scale and it's dead on across a variety of weight ranges.

I don’t understand the need for a scale for bfs baits.  Can someone please explain it to me?

My experience has been that as you get lighter and lighter baits become more finicky and harder to identify by sight.  Plus, little changes have a big impact.  Finally, if I know that my BFS reel is dialed in for 1/8th oz, I can weigh my other presentations to know if the breaks need adjustment before.

But, the real reason is for when I dump a full 3700 of sinkers.

I ordered a similar scale off amazon.  It works well.  I use it to organize tackle at home.  I can't imagine needing to taking it on the water.

Okay.  I get it for some of you.  Myself I get stuff ready at home and test it before I go.  So I know what baits work on which setups.

I had a scale like that once: I used it for other purposes.

Learning what lures actually weigh vs package weight is good to know.

90% of the hard lures weights do not include split rings and hooks.

All my finesse yards lures weight between 3/32 to 1/4 oz that I use with BFS. The 1/4 oz hard lures can also be cast effectively with MF casting tackle, just the lower end.

The 1 exception is Evergreen JXJ minnow listed at 5/32 weighs 3/32 oz/2.66 grams.

I bought a small scale last year but I don’t use it for BFS lures as much as I use it for jigs, especially 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz. You would be surprised at how far off the jig weights are. I was trying at one point to keep them separate but the heads sizes are so similar and one brands 3/8oz might as well be anothers 1/2oz.

@Tennessee Boy I found it necessary to have it on water for not changing break adjustments, so I can change lures all 3gr for example, and not mix the weight and have to adjust breaks each time I change bait. IDK, maybe it is too much, but I have like 70 baits from 2gr to 5ge, and it is hard for me to remember or guess the exact weight.

Some of my favorite BFS lures are small crankbaits like:

Shallow 2-4 feet deep

Macbeth 39 (1/8 oz)

Mid depth 5-7 feet

Damiki Disco 38 (3/20 oz)

OSP Tiny Blitz MR (1/4 oz)

Deeper 10-12 feet

OSP Tiny Blitz DR (1/4 oz)

@MontanaBasser The trout magnet 1/16oz under spin jigs are the best in term of quantity of fish. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Lelands_Lures_Crappie_Magnet_Fin_Spin_Jig_Heads_3pk/descpage-CRDFS.html

and in hard bait side:Bill Lewis Tiny Trap Rat-L-Trap 1/8oz in rainbow color
