Social Media: Have we come full circle?

Enjoyed the responses, not sure what instigated such a long drawn out post first thing this morning, but I guess seeing the link to the kid that started his own bait shop just really made my day. If you are going to choose just one place to socialize, this genuinely seems like a great place to do so.

Wish you all a great evening!

Least we forget, the internet has become the biggest sales and marketing tool in history. My wife can tell me to buy some new socks and my internet immediately fills up with sock ads without me typing anything in the search bar.

Isn't that the truth.

Youtube is arguably the best source for tips and tricks on just about everything.

Did you know you can freeze fresh cilantro and parsley? You just pick off what you need as you go, the rest will remain fresh for up to a year. So you don't have to waste a lot of $$ on fresh cilantro and parsley you can't use before it goes bad.

Thank you YouTube.

...it's the little things in life that make me grin.

That said, yes, it's the bots and fake accounts run by our enemies designed to fan the flames of hatred that have ruined Facebook, Twitter, et al. Just know when you see those extremist comments....they're fake.

Here at BassResource, in addition to the elite moderator crew (thank you! And thank you guys for recognizing their efforts!), I've implemented several technical measures to prevent bots, malicious foreign government operatives, spammers, and scammers from accessing these forums.

Seems to be working.

Thank you all so much for the kind words. BassResource has been a lifelong passion for me, and I’m incredibly grateful that so many of you enjoy it and have found a community here that truly feels like family.

It’s like fried chicken and great bourbon. Use it appropriately and know your limits. If you don’t and overindulge, it’ll mess your life up.

Speaking of facebook , over my life i have accumulated all the family photos I can. They are all on Facebook. I have cousins that I have never met, who live on the other side of the country ,friend me just to see the photos. Remember those photo booths, I had a little one inch picture of a cousin as a baby being held by her mother. When she saw that she was stunned. Its the only baby photo of her there is.I have pictures dating back to the early 1900's all on Facebook.

Agree! I also love Facebook for short, fun videos: dogs, dancing, etc.

I don’t like anybody and this is the only place that’ll tolerate me!

My wife is a big scroller on social media. She will make comments like how do they afford another vacation. I’m like don’t compare yourself to them. What you don’t see is them maxing out their 4th credit card to do it.

Social media used correctly is a great tool. I’ve connected with people, shared, experiences, and learned. Undoubtedly there is a lot of trash. I do agree it’s getting out of hand. I think society as a whole is going backwards. That’s a topic not for here.

We have a great group of bass heads here. From bank fishermen to hardcore tournament guys. We all have something to learn from each other. This place also proves people can disagree on one topic and the next one they are in 100% the same page. That’s respect. I can’t think of one time I have been disrespected here. Which speaks volumes for the active uses and mods.

I dont post fish photos on Facebook. Did that a couple of times and had several people wanting me to take them. I just enjoy fishing alone. I crave it.

An interesting topic with many perspectives.

Just yesterday I read where Elon Musk has applied for permissions to launch 1 million more satellites..1 million more than are in orbit now. This is in an effort to support AI data centers on Earth.

I love deep space photography. I take pride in using sky maps & using some, but minimal online resources. I recently spent 4 months searching for a particular comet before capturing it however the sky is littered with satellites, aircraft, light pollution etc. The capturing of satellite's on my photographs have become ridiculous, & I will not use expensive editing software to attempt to remove it, (more time & effort than I wish to spend) Back on point…AI data centers & 1 million more satellites are coming very soon.

Nature is not so glorious as it once was, but is still glorious..

One thing to keep in mind about social media is that the algorithms are designed to show you content that keeps you engaged. They are not designed to necessarily show you content that you like or that makes you feel good. A political post that makes you angry and you read it over and over as you get more angry, that's engagement. If you don't engage with the negative stuff it will stop feeding it to you. I log into Facebook about once a month. I used to see all of the negative political fury. I started blocking everything political wither I agreed with it or not. Now Facebooks only shows me updates from my friends and videos of cute puppies. 😃

I've enjoyed this site very much. And as has been said, it's run well, with good mods and how Glenn has it going. The rest of social media? I don't care.
