Do you mainly fish from the bank or boat?

I fish from the bank

I don't like how my boys always say the word "bro" but I'm going to borrow it.

Bro, get a kayak.

So many things open up with a "simple" kayak.

Right now I feel like my time is split between the two. If I only want to fish for 2-3 hours I’ll throw on my waders and hit the river or local lake. If I have more time, I’ll take the boat out.

  • I fish more frequently from the bank but usually only for a few hours max. I mostly take my kids bank fishing and for good reason. My last boat outing I took my girls to a friends and family tournam

Meh, i don't have that many hot places for one near me. And it's so much work loading and unloading one.

Occasionally, I'll fish Table Rock from a boat and nearby rivers in a kayak, but most of the time Im fishing from the bank. I want to do a lot more boat/kayak fishing this year, though.

I fish from the bank almost exclusively for the last 10 years.

I am strictly a bank fisherman

I almost exclusively fish ponds from the bank. I would love to get a boat, but I’m not in a place to do so.

Y'all are so lucky in the US having ponds on every corner, full of largies. Here in Canada, when you find one, if you're very lucky, it might have some crapies and 6" catfish🤢Canada really did drop the ball on this.

I've posted this in another thread before. But there's a good chance I would not be a member of this forum without my boat. The boat purchase in 2015 was the primary reason I joined bass resource.

Yes and no.

In Iowa, the majority are PRIVATE.

So you need to know someone.

I'm 90% on the water fishing. kayak-boat.

having said that: my favorite trip of the year is my annual run to Lake Texoma fishing from the shore for stripers. casting distance contest with the circle of buds, hard hitting topwater bites. it is so much fun!! some trips we do so much better than the boats just trolling beyond our casts.

I would love a kayak, but I don’t really have any water for one near me, or the space to store one. I will get one here in a few years.

Kayak and bank with occasional John boat trip. It’s too easy to just slide the kayak in and out of the truck bed to not use it and allows access to water I can’t fish from the bank.

I'd be sneaking in all of them. There's one private pond i fish since around 2004-2005🤣

As a guesstimate I fish 80% from a boat on small lakes and the other 20% shore bound on Lake Michigan in chicago and NW Indiana.

I'd say my fishing time is 80% boat, 20% bank.

I don't have easy access to good fishy water, so I have to drive at least 1 hour to good spots. Nearest boat launch is 20 mins away, but fishing the local reservoir has more cons than pros, and it's feast or famine for catching.

But I'm 12 mins from predictable fishing along the C&O canal, so when I only have a couple hours, I take a cigar, one rod and a small tackle bag and hike and fish it.

Interesting how many people just bank fish. I thought it would be 90+ % boat only. I've done it all. Bank, boat, tube, kayak you name it. These days it's almost only boat. Haven't yaked or tubed in years. I live 2 1/2 blocks from the Pacific Ocean and walking distance of two large saltwater bays. I will occasionally dip my toes in the sand and shore fish. It can be quite excellent at times.

98% kayak, if camping on the Delaware River a little bit of shore fishing down from the campsite.

90% bank, 10% boat. Most of the water I fish is either no boats, or electric motor only.

from the bank. You can still catch great fish from the bank like this one:

7'6 rods help get your bait out there.

I wade a lot and create my own eddies

Most ponds and creeks from the bank. Larger lakes I use my wife bottom canoe. I'll say 60% boat, 40% Bank fishing. I like both

As a retired senior I find fishing from the bank 100 percent of the time fishing mostly for Largemouth Bass suits my lifestyle at this time. And on occasion, if a fellow angler invites me to go with him on a marsh fishing trip for bass, I usually go.

99.9 % boat.

Only time I fish from shore is after I launch the boat, tie it off and wait for the wife and that's only a cast or 2.

Shore for a lot of short trips after work, boat on weekends
