HazeRVA Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 That's what I figured. I have the Levante but have not seen the Royal or Deep Purple in person. Guess I'll go another route. Quote

I have a couple Daiwa reels I’d like to have serviced and am curious about upgrading their bearings too. Quote

Myself. @Delaware Valley Tackle can service and do all the upgrades you need if you don’t feel comfortable the DIY route. Quote
redmeansdistortion Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 My mad science lab. Just finished up the Abus, now a dozen and a half Penns to go through, a mix of 330s and 320s for one of my charter service customers. Great Lakes salmon season is a comin'! 6 Quote

Since I was buying a DLH load of parts from Japan, threw in the parts to pimp-out the Cetus. The result: Loaded with 4-lb Toray Exthread fluoro (basically Tatsu equivalent, low memory, wants to leave the spool) I showed this before. Here's the same set-up, but swapped the Daion knobs for my favorite set of Avail acrylic knobs. If anybody wants a pair of Daiwa Daion paddles, LMK - it will just cost you the priority mail (I only ship parts in flate-rate video boxes). 3 Quote

walleyecrazy Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 Decided to see if all the good I’ve been hearing about this is true. I got to use it briefly today, and can confirm that it truly is as good as everyone is saying. Now I’m just waiting for the new rod I order to pair with this to show up so I can truly test it as I intend to use it. 12 Quote

The Zillion was finally given justice vs. the made in Thailand SV TW. It's as smooth and precise as my Steez A. Maybe a little bit smoother. Need a little more time with it but it just might be my favorite reel. I wanted a Steez SV but don't really see the point with the JDM Zillions. It's pretty awesome. 1 Quote
Chonch12 Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 Basketball, adult beverages, and reorganizing my gear. Turned the 3600 into my terminal tackle from the 3700 and consolidated some. Max storage with these being only 3 I can fit into the backpack. Along with soft plastics 7 Quote
evilcatfish Posted March 21, 2021 Posted March 21, 2021 Found a good deal and finally pulled the trigger on a "real" Evergreen but about had a heart attack when DHL dropped it off Friday. The tube looked liked it snapped in two places, was repaired and sent along its way. Much to my surprise the rod was intact. Looks like the sender patched a few pieces of cardboard tube together for shipping. I honestly can't believe the rod made it, this cardboard wasn't much thicker than the tube inside a roll of wrapping paper. Otherwise, this rod feels amazing in hand and can't wait to get it on the water 8 Quote
evo2s197 Posted March 23, 2021 Posted March 23, 2021 Just received my custom rod from Nelson rods, built on a St. Croix SCV610MLXF blank, with spiral wrapped titanium torzite guides, and carbon fiber grips, paired it with a Alphas CT SV, should be an awesome shakyhead rod. 14 Quote
JohnFromLisbon Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 I had been looking at this thing on the website for a while now, finally decided to buy it. According to Matt "Wallet Killer" Allen, this is *the* frog rod. I'm also going to use it for pitching heavier stuff in vegetation. Shimano Expride 7'3" XH (JDM version) 6 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted March 27, 2021 Super User Posted March 27, 2021 More tinkering to show, this on my monster surf spinning reel, and has been a long-term project to collect the pieces. First, UK vendors have finally opened shop after shutting down for a year, and I was able to replace the sloppy 85-mm-pitch factory handle with this well-engineered, solid, folding 70-mm-pitch handle from Weston in UK. Both Tica and Daiwa (made by Tica) use a giant 6-mm handle hex shaft with 3.5 mm handle screw. We don't see many of these reels in the US, but the UK is big on them, with nice aftermarket improvements. But the real project was adding this "reel stand" The purpose of the reel stand on an 11' rod is to have a place to keep a big circle hook. The small rotating loop also keeps lure trebles perfectly out of the way. What made this so tough was the hex shaft and 3.5 mm handle screw. However, this is also the thread Shimano used on their old square-handle-shaft reels. Found this dirt-cheap Ali Express reel stand with swapping handle screw threads, 3 mm or 3.5 mm. The M5-0.5 30-mm-long socket screw (also from Ali) matches the thread of the anodized reel stand into the handle screw base. All I really wanted was the handle screw base. Cut one of the M5-0.5 screws into an all-thread stud - it ended up with red-loctite into the handle screw base. Drilled and tapped matching thread into the Tsubaki reel stand. Fit the stand-off I needed with an IDeR Design reel stand base, and shimmed the whole assembly with M5 spacer and (#10) rubber washer from Bolt Depot. ps - here's how the Weston handle folds, and lets the big reel fit in a padded case. 7 Quote
