At long last, the P5 Hien is in my hands.  Only have a few hours on it, but so far I am loving it.  It casts like a dream and is wildly sensitive.  I managed three 1lb-ish bass this morning, every hit felt like someone flicked the blank, super crisp.

It is a pretty sweet rod, before I got it i was told it's fairly decent for bottom contact baits and a bit softer than the Hein Carbon Head, but after using mine it's more than decent it's ideal for finesse jigs like the keitechs and light wire T-rigs such as what's in your post.

Yea, the slower taper really helps with casting, even stuff right at the bottom of it’s rating load well.  I am starting to think that the rating is shifted too high, 1/4oz loads and casts very well while with a 1/2oz jerkbait felt like I didn’t want to go much heavier.  My in limited sample size, the hooksets have been great with small jigs, that t-rig, and a weedless 4” Easy Shiner.

Really pleased with it so far, the most amazing thing is how short the rod feels, one handed casts feel great and it feels as accurate as my 6’ bfs rods.

Not sure if I'm gonna put it on a existing rod I have or buy a new one for it, I have a 7ft6 MH MF ST. CROIX LEGEND ELITE I'm not using, so if I decide to put it on that rod, it will be used for Carolina rigs.

My newest combo:

Megabass Destroyer P5 Tequila Baccarac F7-70X with a Shimano Tranx 301HG.  Just got the reel today and it balances & palms INCREDIBLY!  Way more palmable than I had thought.

Planning to use it for big swimbaits and jigs  (maybe frogs if it’ll cast and walk them)for LMB but more importantly this will be my everything-but-chunking rig for stripers in the salt.  Big topwaters and big jigs are the name of the game there which the TB should have the backbone for, and the tranx has the line cap/retrieve speed to work a big fish in big water down with drag. I’ve been utilizing the Orochi Perfect Pitch/Exsence for this slot and while it’s an amazing combo it’s just a bit underpowered/low capacity for the bigger baits I like and fish above schoolie sized.

Where did you get it?  I have been looking for months.  I had one on order but was told it was going to be December instead of the first week of July.

The Tackle Trap.  But I ordered it in late February, if you want one, preordering is the best bet.

Added RCS cork knobs and a RCS 90mm carbon handle to the 50th anniversary Zillion I acquired a few weeks back.

Bolted it to a Daiwa BLX SG 7ft MH Xfast rod got it from Sierra Trading Post for only $199!

I like it but I don’t think I could fish that reel. It would get horribly disfigured after a few years.

No reason why you shouldn't be able to fish a combo for years and years and still have it look nearly new, just treat it with care.

I try, but once I get a big fish on that’s all out the window. The rod is thrown off to the side and onto the ground. The more I catch, the worse it is.

I grabbed this guy from an estate sale for a measly $40 earlier this year, finally got around to cleaning it up yesterday and tweaking a few things.  It's a 2500 CI with a foot stamping of 0400, probably early to mid 90s production.  Instant anti reverse and 5.3:1 gears.

That's a jewel - I'm betting you're going to have a blast racing it out with Valleyhill, Avail and AMO parts.

Nice rig.  Your reel looks like a high-end pencil sharpener.

Except in this case there’s no settling for #2 haha

Seems pretty sensitive for the msrp price range, at the price I paid for the rod, it blows everything else out of the water in the $200 range.

It is stout though even though it's rated as a MH it's more of a MH+ similar to a St. CROIX MH, it should work great for swim jigs.
