Ha, I wish I could, but I was out of work for like all of 2020 and have to be a good boy for the time being. 6 Quote

Super User bulldog1935 Posted April 27, 2021 Super User Posted April 27, 2021 Rod - this is my first BFS/small-game casting rod hemmed and hawed over it watching stock at my favorite Japan vendor, finally grabbed the last one for who knows how long Reel - and my first Daiwa since a Minicast - they made me mad when they wouldn't support parts for my 5-y-o Millionaire 6H in 1984. (The Minicast landed a 6-1/2-lb largemouth on jitterbug, and the millionaire umpteen bull reds in the surf) Hemmed and hawed over this, too, and decided to spring. Salt-rating was part of the choice, but from the go, wanted a large spool diameter. Also considered Abu LX992Z JDM Special BF model. BFS braid spool, which doesn't SV (fixed brake rotor), but at 6 g for the spool, and for throwing 2 g, pretty sure it won't matter loaded up the stock spool with 10-lb Tatsu for service on MM and MH. BTW, the Daiwa flagship spool with all its complications is quoted to weigh 15 g, but with bearing it's definitely over 20 g. My braid is due Thursday, same order, but separate shipping from the rod - planning to fish Duel Hardcore PE#0.8, 16-lb test. As skinny as the spool looks, I'm estimating it will hold most of 100 yds. and pretty trick, the Roro spool came with the hedgehog can for storing your spare spool ps - you know I can't stand those skinny little I-shaped paddle knobs... pss - 100 m Duel X-wire, with room to spare don't know what comes after pss, but my lawn-casting test result: After 4 mag steps down (9-6) and one back up, I laid out a dozen casts bracketed in 90 to 100' - that's casting a 2-g jighead. 9 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted May 3, 2021 Super User Posted May 3, 2021 I was surprised by how much I prefer them over my former favorite Avail knobs - fishingshopkiwi has the best price on the only current Studio Composite handle, 30% lower than hedgehog. Since I'll be in the salt, used titanium spindle bolt. The handle is remarkably lighter than stock, and those big knobs are carbon tube. I'm always after big fish on light tackle. 1 Quote
Super User bowhunter63 Posted May 3, 2021 Super User Posted May 3, 2021 I got a mag lite rod from Whisker seeker tackle. I like to channel cat fish also with bass fishing. This is quickly becoming my favorite Smallie rod. It’s light quick and strong. I love the thinner longer handle. I haven’t caught any cars on yet but it’s a great Smallmouth rod. Carbon and s glass. Great for swim jigs flukes and t rigged craws. Quote
walleyecrazy Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 My latest additions to my ever growing rod and reel arsenal. Daiwa Procyon AL 2500XH on a Daiwa Tatula 7’ M F for some of my finesse stuff. I also grabbed a Daiwa Zillion 10.0 off of the “flea market” section of this site for a great price. Now I just have to decide wether this Zillion is going on my jig setup or the frogging setup. ? 9 Quote

CrankFate Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 Almost 2 months after the fact, part one of my birthday present arrived today. Going to use this for jerkbaits and slack line presentations that require a quicker hookset. Nice rod sleeve, but it’s never going back on the rod. Still waiting for the Curado BFS. Just finished cooking Mother’s Day dinner # 2 today. I don’t play when it comes to that type of thing. 6 Quote

evo2s197 Posted May 13, 2021 Posted May 13, 2021 New combo. Daiwa Steez Racing Design AGS 701MH/HXB-ST 1/4 - 1.25 weights 10-25 lb flourocarbon. Solid tip. Comes in at 3.6 ounces Paired with a Daiwa Steez SV TW 1016SV-SHL 7.1:1 Added a carbon handle and SLP knobs to fancy it up some. This rod makes the AGS Bottom Contact not as special in my opinion. 7 Quote

KP Duty Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 My Daiwa Black Label or 'BLX' rods arrived. They are the 'limber' moving bait models. One is a 7-3ml+ 1/7-7/8oz. 110g, the other is a 7-4mh 1/4-1 1/2oz. 130g rod. They have the nicest cork of any rod I own or have owned. I'll add that both models seem med-fast and should be versatile. 5 Quote

I would love to hear your thoughts on them once you have gotten to fish them a bit. I have one of the short frog rods from the LG BLX line and really love it. Quote

I agree with the cork on these rods. It is definitely the best I have seen. I have the 7' MH SG casting, and the 6'8" ML SG spinning on the way. I think that 7'4" MH LG casting is going to be my next rod purchase. The 7' MH SG casting impressed me enough for me to start swapping out some of my other rods with more BLX rods. Quote

Super User bulldog1935 Posted May 15, 2021 Super User Posted May 15, 2021 Valleyhill bass rod. Pretty remarkable wide lure range - described as RF to fish most niches, feels very fast to me, but haven't cast it yet, between fishing the salt and arriving home to rain, and a back-acre that needs mowing... a metal reel seat - haven't seen that in a long time - with a nice knurled tightening ring - in spite of that, a shocking light-in-hand rod, well-balanced, goes nicely with the magnesium-frame reel. and nice details including Ti/SiC guides I've already fished my Steez modified with Roro-X spool on my inshore small game rod. But for the wide range of this rod, will need to use a spool with the SV complication for start-up brakes on heavier lures. Planning to load a Ray's Studio honeycomb SV spool with 100 m PE#1.2 braid (27-lb), and 12-lb fluoro leader. ...break in the rain here, got the back acre mowed late yesterday, and we're about to get 24 hours of flash flooding. But the window allowed first cast of the rod with a 2-g jighead. Took me a couple of casts to get aiming the short rod, after fishing the 8'2" small game rod last week. But I was able to duplicate 3-in-a-row 100' casts with 2 g. Looks like a natural for Ned rig, and plan to put it through its full-range paces when I get to kayak our no-motors reservoir. 9 Quote
KP Duty Posted May 16, 2021 Posted May 16, 2021 I was just browsing those Valleyhill's on Digitaka....mainly just to educate myself. They seem nice, just havent seen anyone post one up. Until now I guess... 1 Quote
evo2s197 Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 Picked up a new Megabass P5 Destroyer Bait Finesse. And paired it with a new Millionaire CT SV. Pretty awesome little combo, I'll probably make it my dedicated Vision Oneten Jr combo. 9 Quote

Sure thing, I can tell you that just with initial observations, the power and action is very similar to a St Croix 6ft10 ml xfast blank, which is a good thing because the st croix blank does a lot of finesse stuff well while still having great backbone. 1 Quote

walleyecrazy Posted May 26, 2021 Posted May 26, 2021 My newest addition. Daiwa BLX 6’8” ML SG paired up with a Tatula LT. I’ve had this for about a week, and have caught around 50 fish on it using a combination of drop shot and Ned rig lures. So far I love this rod. It’s very sensitive, and has about the perfect taper for a drop shot in my opinion. This is my second BLX(and I’m sure not last), and after using both of them I really don’t understand how this line of rods does not get more attention. They are d**n good rods. 4 Quote
TBAG Posted June 1, 2021 Posted June 1, 2021 After trying many different rods I think I finally have settled on my ultimate weightless Senko combo. Adding a hook keeper to my new Expride was a game changer. 5 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted June 1, 2021 Super User Posted June 1, 2021 Already showed the raced-out Steez, but now I have a raced-out Zillion to go with it. The black Ray's Studio spool is in the Zillion, the one-third-lighter Roro-X in the Steez. 4 Quote
