eakins jig question

Featured Replies

I love an Eakins Jig.  I have been trailing them with a 3" Warrior Craw in green pumpkin.  It keeps the jig compacy but the claws give off a ton of vibration.

Most of the time it is a Zoom super chunk jr or creepy crawler in green pumkin. This year I have been using a 3"chigger craw with success.

    Two words RAGE TAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though Rage Tails do have a lot of action and I do sometimes dye the claws to give it some extra excitement to the bass.

I used these jigs a lot. My favorite trailer is the 4" Chomper creature (looks like a hula grub). It fills out the jig skirt nicely. Try it out.

I like Zoom Ultra Vibe craws for the 5/16 oz. versions. It's a finesse jig so I like to tip it with a compact trailer but one that still has some movement. Another trailer that works amazingly on these jigs is the Yamamoto Fat Baby craw. The only downside with those trailers is that the claws are VERY delicate  >:)

I'm a big fan of the Flappin' Hog, too!

Some other things to try are the Rage

Tail Craws and Craw Chunks; GYCB

Double Tail Grubs; Baby Paca Craws

and for a BIG presentation, the

Double Wide Beaver.

Out of curiosity anyone know where to get the 3in Eakins craws? Are they discontinued?

I've used a variety of different trailers on Eakins Jigs.  Most of the time I use the trailer marketed by Jewel Baits, a little 3" craw.. So far as I know they are still available.   I'll use Netbait Paca chunks also.   If I know I'm going to be sticking with that jig exclusively for a while, I still have some pork frogs that I will use.   If I'm going to be junk fishing and just rotating through numerous baits, I don't use the pork because it tends to dry out just sitting on the deck.
