Gamakatsu Superlines.2/0 - 5/0

Haven't tried them all - but out of the ones I have tried - Owner Wide Gap Plus gets it done.

I've absolutely never missed a fish due to a hook. Therefore, I like Gamakatsu, Owner, Mustad, and Trokar. All the hooks i've tried. However I do find myself going for the Mustads alot. i just like em.

Never had a problem with a hook of any brand. From a 1.99$ pack of 4/0 eagle claws from walmart or a 4/0 gamakatsu. I use gamakatsu 99% of the time though.

I'm just trying to find a hook that when I hook a fish, with something such as a Zoom ultravibe speed worms, that the fish is hook solidly up through the roof of the mouth where he can't come off with a 2.5 pound bass, not in the side of the mouth where the flesh will tear, I want the hook in there so good that I have to use pliers to get it out. What model of a hook am I looking at?

Owner here also. I have alot of different brands but right now I'm slowly replacing everything with Owners.

I'm no expert, but I'm not aware of any way to pick your placement for the location of the hookset. All you can do is feel the bite, reel in the slack and swing on the fish. Perhaps the hook is not the issue. Are you taking in enough slack? Are you swinging hard enough?

Well said. I've used numerous hooks, but I would say gammi and more recently Trokar have won my vote.

However, I don't think I've yet to discover how to coach a hook to stick right in the sweet spot. I think we're having communication issues ;)

Just pick any quality hook, go to a pond loaded with fish and start jacking them. Take note of every catch's hook placement. What did you do when setting? I still say a hook in the mouth is worth a thousand hooks through empty water, so don't put too much thought into this.

Good luck with that notion. You won't find too much consistency there. As far as shaking off, sound more like an issue of the way you play and land the fish than a hook problem.

For extra wide gap worm hooks, I use Owner Wide Gap Plus.

For some deeper bodied baits, like fat bodied creatures and flipping tubes, I'll use their offset point Rigging Hook.

I am in the minority here, but I use Lunker City Texposer hooks in 3/0 and 4/0 for all my T-rigged plastics. The offset shanks, sharp as a razor tips, and Texposing the hooks have made setting the hook practically effortless. I dont lose many.

X2.

I use all kinds of hooks but these are by far my favorite.

I like the Owner's myself.

I don't have a preference in hooks but I use gamakatsu more because of availability, I have yet to have a problem with any ewg hook, standard or superline

I've used pretty much all of the different brands. Each one has their pros and cons. Personally, I've found that Owners have never given me a reason not to like them.

You will increase your odds of hooking the fish in the roof of the mouth using a straight shank hook and a snell knot.

Lately, I've been using Gamazatsu's Heavy Cover Worm Hook for ALL of my plastics needs. My "lost fish ration" has dropped significantly. i lose VERY FEW fish with those.

Keep something in mind: it may be your rod or line. Heavy wire hooks are thicker in diameter, and therefore require a little more pressure to properly sink into a bass' mouth. Light wire hooks dont require a lot of pressure to penetrate.

So, if you select the very best heavy wire hook in the world, but it doesnt mean anything if your tossing it on light line or a flimsy pole.

I would be sure to use a MH Fast action rod and at least 12# test of something with low stretch.

Hope that helps you land a few more. Good luck out there!

I use 4/0 for most applications and can buy BPS hooks 20 for 6 bucks. That's why I use em and have never had any trouble stickin fish. For smaller plastics like Robo Worms I use TruTurn, usually about size 1.

I recently bought a pack of what is basically BPS EWG superline style hooks because of the price and I get another 40% off so I figured I'd give them a shot. So far they are sticky sharp and hold fish very well. I've fished them with a baby brush hog, a senko, and a fluke and had very good hookup ratios even on long casts. Provided I don't start losing a bunch of fish on them they might become my go to hooks, must better than $20.99 I was going to pay for my normal 4/0 gama EWG superline hooks.

I use Gamakatsu 4/0 Texas rigged weightless. I usually fish Zoom Ultravibe worms, trick worms, and brush hogs ALWAYS produce for me.

If I am flipping then I use Eagle Claw weighted worm hook 4/0.
