  1. Any change in the feel of a lure could be a bite. If you are fishing the tops of grass with a trap you will feel it as it contacts the grass. You need a rod with enough backbone to free it by ripping it from the weeds and this usually will cause a trailing fish to load up on the lure. I have caught plenty of fish that hooked up that I thought was grass. Just depends on the mood of the fish and how they attack the lure that day. Good luck, Jack
  2. you will not be able to look at the hub and tell if it is bad unless it has begun to twist out. Carry it to a prop shop and have it checked. There is nothing wrong with a rebuilt prop if it is done by a well known, reputable shop. Lots of people have thier new props tweeked while they are searching for a little more mph
  3. Where ever you decide to mount it here are a few tips to help: Read the instructions at least twice. Lay it all out on the deck If through a 1" hole on the console feed the transducer cable through first Don't mount the ducer permantely until you try it out if it is going on the transom If on the T/M make sure you leave enough cable so it will not bind as you turn the motor from right to left Do not attach to the T/m batteries Keep the wiring as far away from other wiring as possible If mounting through the floor, use two part epoxy. Stir it easy to keep air bubbles down. Good luck
  4. Yep it's bad. My wife is working in Oklahoma City this week and called me last night to tell me they had reports of 75 mph winds. Ya'll keep it up there, we've had all the wind we need this spring.
  5. I'll volunteer to cover the area around the bridge, Carrice Creek, Bugg Island river area, and down to the Lowe's Creek area on the Texas side. Maybe we can find a few areas out off the river that will hold some larger fish. If we all put our heads together we might have a few toads located come Big Bass Splash time. Jack Good job Wesley. that's a great fish. As Pat Miller stated last week, anytime you land a fish over 5 pounds that's a good day on the water.
  6. #4 should be highlighted and crossed from the list.
  7. Get you some old auto or truck tires and lay them out behind the boat. Lock up the boat with a winch strap and slowly pull away sliding the tires up under the boatas it slides off the back of the trailer. It will be easy to tilt the boat from sise to side to repair the bottom this way. To put it back on just winch the front up in the air and back the trailer up under the front of the boat. When the nose is touching, use the winch strap to tighten up on the bow. Lift up on the rear of the boat and using the truck to back along with tightening up the winch strap the boat will slide right up on the trailer. We have unloaded and loaded 21' Skeeters, Basscats, and a few Rangers this way and never damaged a one. You are taking your life in your own hands if you crawl under one being held in the air by anything other than a factory lift.
  8. Make sure you install the correct inline fuse on the positive side or it will void the warranty.
  9. The red (+) and the black (-) will be the only wires you need to use unless you are networking the unit with another. It is an easy install. All other wires will either be to hook up engine diagnostics to your unit or for the networking. It should explain it in your manuel. As far as price I cannot help you as I install my own electronics and I'm pretty much a dumba*& when it comes to electric issues. I bet you can do it if you try. Jack
  10. The high(New) water has them scattered out. You just have to cover water and keep trying different things. Catt and I went through the same thing on Toledo last Wed. and Thur.
  11. I have two and have never had a problem the last two years with either. Sorry to hear of your problems.
  12. You will be money ahead to get the job done buy a reputable mechanic. Don't let just anyone tell you what the motor needs and don't let just anyone work on it. That 200.00 job might end up costing four times that. To rebuild the carbs should run 400.00-450.00. There is no such thing as a cleaning kit. Stay away from anyone that steers you that way. Make friends with a good mechanic and it will save you tons of money down the road. Remember a carb job should include the following: Tear down Parts cleaning Rebuild kits(3) Reassembly Linkage adjustment Idle adjustment High Speed adjustments(Spark advance, etc.) Test run(Either on the lake or in a tank) That 400-450 includes many things that will improve the running of your motor or ruin it. If you lean it out you will understand.
  13. The true answer will ly somewhere in between all the different versions.
  14. As bad as I hate to say it, they are a first class operation. I had to spend two days on Toledo with Catt and Pat Miller both wearing the Purple shirts with the LSU logo on them. Being a Bama alum it was very hard to take, but they took it a little easy on me. Congratulations to a fine S.E.C. organization for going the extra mile. At least I did not have to listen to anyone finish each sentence with "War Eagle".
  15. Anyone that would furnish the above information in a reply deserves what they have coming.
  16. Some idiot with 5-6 people was showing off just before the start of the poker run last weekend on Ray Hubbard just east of Dallas on IH-35. Story was he was second time out, running 120 and backed off to around 100 and tried to cut the 43' Cig. boat around a bouy. He rolled it three times ejecting everyone. No deaths, but most were injured. Due to his lack of sense and respect for everyone the run was cancelled. Some people just don't get it. Sad part is his wealthly father will probably turn him loose in a new one this weekend.
  17. Catt and I actually caught several 3-4" bream on our 3/8 oz spinnerbaits last weekend on Toledo Bend. Also a lot of 5-8" bass on the 7-8" trick worms.
  18. Last Wednesday and Thursday Catt and I fished the big pond. Here is how our Wednesday went. We launched around 6:30 from Fin & Feather Marina with the intention of fishing the main lake humps and ridges that the lake is famous for. Due to the wind(Again) we were forced to change our plans. We ran out to the north side of Housen Bay and concentrated on a grass line located next to a 30' channel. We were throwing spinner baits in Chartruse/White, worms, jigs, and buzz baits. We never caught a fish off this area. The next hour we moved into Hurricane Creek and began by fishing another grassline with spinnerbaits and trick worms fished wacky style. Another hour went by without a bite. We decided that a change need to be made. We picked up the dreaded rattle trap in 1/2 oz.(Gold, Black back, Orange belly) and on the third cast we boated a 4.04. Off this point we had 5-6 bites quickly, but we only boated another two. We spent the next hour in this area without another bite. About 11:00 we decided to make the run out to the main lake and fish for a bigger bite. The wind was down and we were able to fish the area. We spent over an hour fishing a 15' ridge that fell off into the river at 55-60'. I got one bite and it was a decent fish as I stuck him and never moved him. He wrapped me up quickly and we ended up having to break him off. About 1:30 we decided they fish had not made the move out to the main lake due to all the new water. The lake was on a major rise. We decided to run back into Housen and fish some shallow grasslines that had a lot of 30' water close by. We immediately began to get bit and started catching fish. All were small with the occasional keeper, but they were few and far between. We did manage to boat one good fish(6.11) out of 4' of water. We broke at 5:00 to eat and went back out. The wind was back up, but we caught a couple of smaller keepers along with several nonkeepers on spinnerbaits, worms, and traps off of wind blown points. Overall it was a tough day. We covered a lot of water, but never did figure out the better fish. I will report on our second day tommorrow. Jack
  19. I do a lot of fishing up by the bridge. Usually put in at the smaller bridge out in front of Frontier Park. I fish the Bugg Island Carrice Creek area a lot. FYI, if the S.E. wind is blowing hard you can forget this area. Jack
  20. I had to have the carbs rebuilt last August due to the D%^m stuff. I'm now trying to wait until I get out of Houston to try to find fuel that is not mixed. There are a few places up in the East Texas area still selling the real deal so I buy up there and fill a few cans with extra if I can.
  21. I just hate reading stuff like this. Prayers to the family.
  22. Well, where are you and what kind of gas have you previously put in it? Does the fuel contail ethanol? If not you will be fine. If it has the ethanol you may need to add a stabilizer.
  23. Texas certainly does. They compile creel counts from major tournaments as well as club tournaments and release them in September each year for the previous year.
  24. Insert cordinates here:____________ I'll tell you in a couple of days
  25. I have a freshwater/saltwater license only here in Texas and I think I pay 28.00 a year. Boat launching on Rayburn at the corp of engineer ramps are 2.00, but marinas on lake Conroe are now charging 10.00 to launch.
