  1. Which waters are you fishing around Philly?
  2. UPS last week. Fortunately the rod was OK.
  3. I'll be fishing Champaign in mid-May. I have never fished it before and know nothing about the lake. But I do have one question. Are there gobies in Champaign?
  4. I know you wanted a Tranx 300 but thought you may be interested in a Daiwa Lexa. I have a Lexa 300 on a heavy rod and it is a nice reel. They just got these in a Cabela's. https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/daiwa-lexa-300400-wn-casting-reel?bc_pid=Mjg1MjI1Mg%3D%3D&cm_soc=email&type=trigger|blue|BIS&bc_lcid=t6029094014369792lw6377717851963392
  5. I do not know if they have been discontinued but I doubt it. TW has them listed but all models are out of stock. They do have dates listed when they expect them to be back in stock. Cabela's had some 401's a few days ago but no 301s.
  6. I agree and I think it's probably the grub.....not you! ?
  7. Most of the river and shore striper fishermen around here use 4000 reels and matched rods. We get stripers from 10 inches up to 40 lb. when fishing plugs or bait. Its better to be prepared for that monster.
  8. Well good news. The items not accounted for have shipped.
  9. I tried calling at least 3 times last week about my order. The phone was never answered. I sent an email. That was not answered. I received an email yesterday saying my order has shipped. According to the email some items have been shipped, some are on backorder and some not accounted for. They are not in the order or on backorder. There was no explanation for the items that were not listed as shipped or backordered. Do I reorder or buy somewhere else or just keep hoping they show up someday. ?
  10. I agree. You need additional opinions. I would also research the symptoms on the internet. It may be easier to repair without tearing the engine down.
  11. I know that but that pond and many others have features that are attractive to SM. BTW The pond is fed by a trout stream and empties into a trout stream. Further north that stream turns into a good SM creek and then dumps into the Susquehanna.
  12. I stock a friend's pond. It is great LM water. One time I put some SM in the pond just to see what would happen. I caught SM in the moving water in the vicinity of the spillway for a few years and then nothing. I do not know what happened to the SM but they either died off or went over the spillway during a high water event.
  13. I use Ned rigs but I'm careful where I throw them. I target areas along or outside of weed beds or toss to holes in the weeds. Since I usually fish Ned rigs on light line I stay away from heavy cover.
  14. I just heard on the news that it hit 125 in BC! They are reporting a number of deaths and said the average summer temperature in BC was usually in the 70's.
  15. Someone use to make a tape on reel seat. A lot of fly rodders used them but I forget the name. It would be a cheap option.
  16. I have some older rods that never had reel seats. The reels are secured with electrical tape. Never had a problem. If the tape gets ratty I replace it.
  17. Good choice. I might consider a chatter bait in place of the swim jig and I might try to sneak a Ned Rig in there if they let me have a fourth bait.
  18. If your in PA the Susquehanna and the Juniata are great rivers for wading if the rivers are at normal flow. If your heading out in the kayak then the St. Lawrence is the river in the Eastern US but I'd stick to sheltered waters with the yak.
  19. I fish the Loyalsock creek in Central PA. During the spring the water is cold and the trout fishing in my area is good but no SM. As the water warms the trout move into and up smaller tributaries and then SM move into the same stretches' that were occupied by trout weeks earlier. The general belief is that the SM travel up the creek from the Susquehanna which is 20 or 30 miles south. True?
  20. I belong to a private club in SE PA. I've been a member since the early 1960's. I caught a lot of nice fish then but I'd like to go back to the 60's and fish those lakes with today's tackle and all the knowledge I've learned over the years.
  21. Yep! Its time to rethink your line weight or your location. If you have an extra spool for your reel I would consider spooling on a heavier weight line for fishing that location. But be forewarned even a heavy line might not be enough to horse a fish out of thick weeds. Sometimes you have to go in alter them.
  22. Depth and current dictate the weight. There are many variables and possibilities up there.
  23. Can you post some photos? Seeing what your seeing may help.
  24. I use big spinner baits like those for pike and musky. They cause a lot of commotion and I suspect draw a lot of attention because of that commotion. BTW I have no trouble keeping the big ones on top. I don't remember catching any bass on them but I probably have. I have caught a lot of small pike so catching bass is not a stretch. Next time I'm bass fishing I'll throw one. A change up like that might trigger some fish because it is something they do not usually see.
  25. I'm a little late with my info. I use to fish that area around Hankins and Long Eddy on the river. The fishery up there is influenced by the water release from the dams feeding the river. If they were releasing a lot of cold water the area from about Hankins north was a good trout fishery. If they were not releasing water then the SM could be caught in the area. BTW The shad fishing should be good up there now.
