Mod Question
Marty, the "moderation" isn't always a public display and it doesn't have to be. When members start throwing rocks at each other we lock threads, send PM's to the parties involved and try to diffuse the trouble OFF the board. It's mainly done behind the scenes if at all possible. Sure, people get mad, we get criticized and cussed at from time to time but thats just part of it. As long as the fires are put out, all is well. And alot of the members that we would potentially "have to" watch or moderate are removed from the site within minutes of logging in. This board may be run a little different than other boards. It's either "act" or "react".....and acting early means you wont have to react later. That could be the reason that you don't personally see any "moderating" going on.

Early prespawn techniques
Good post Glenn and I agree with you about the length of daylight being the trigger in all of this.....it just so happens that when the daylight gets longer, the water is usually in the 55-65 range every year just because that's the weather pattern at that time of year and thats what the temps should be. It's like a yearly coincidence. As someone mentioned above, the Elite Tournament in 2007 here on Smith Mtn was into the second week in June. It was HOT! Water was warm, the fish on the upper end in the river had mostly spawned out but there were lots of fish in certain areas down the lake that were still spawning. The pro's that didn't close the door on the idea of bass still spawning in June caught good fish off beds.

What's you favorite
Most definitely the hookset for me. Feeling the bite, seeing the line jump or move off.....good stuff! Plus, right at hookset time, you dont yet know if its a dink or a hawg.

new spinnerbait set up question
I fish very clear water most of the time and I simply don't like using braid in ultra clear water....especially fishing shallow. I'm more inclined to use braid with something that I fish on the bottom, real deep, where it's nice and dark and when I really need the added sensitivity that braid offers. (Carolina Rig, Jig) It's certainly not the worst idea I've ever heard, but on most moving baits I prefer mono....and thats probably a confidence thing thats built up over the years before braid was around and I usually won't change anything that isn't broke. Try the braid, it might be perfect for you.

new spinnerbait set up question
The V-Rod is a loomis blank made in the US- one of the best shimano rods ever made- a friend of mine has 3 of them. I've got a couple of V Rods laying around here somewhere ...they are sweet rods indeed. Back on topic, I like a MH but I don't use braid with a spinnerbait like you. I've got a Jimmy Houston Shimano casting rod (6'6") that has the shorter straight handle which is critical when roll casting under obstructions. The MH gives me the power to lay down a solid hookset and get their head turned in the right direction fast.

Little Boats, Big Fish Club
Nice boats guys! Hey Russ, what happened to that 300 Pro Max Merc you had hangin' on the back?

Rico
As willzx stated above, Rico's are killer in the clear waters of Smith Mtn Lake. Back when the Rico's first came out you could've sold them for $100 bucks a pop around here. I have a few of the older Rico's left and there are times that its the only topwater I will throw or have to throw. It's hard to put down at times. I believe they are worth the extra $. Quit sittin' on your wallet Burley, get some Rico's and come on up here in May.

Ugly Stik I presume? Shakespeare reels have won a few Field and Stream tackle tests against other reels in the past.

Early prespawn techniques
I fish a man-made highland reservoir on a regular basis. In prespawn I like to fish points and deeper rip-rap in the morning and pockets and cuts right off the main lake when the water starts to warm later in the day. Jerkbaits, crankbaits and jigs.
