Several years ago I caught a baby pike in a minnow trap and took it home to put in my tank. Talk about cool. It was about 2" long when I got it. I started feeding it little pinminnows from the petshop. It would eat 2-3 a day. As it grew I used 1 1/2" fatheads and then 2" long ones. What a slob. It would eat whatever I put in the tank. I put in 6 at a time and within 5 minutes they were all gone. The thing was as tall as it was long. After about 6 months, it got so big it outgrew the tank and I couldn't afford to feed it anymore so I took it back and let it go. Probably missed it's daily free meal.

I'm having trouble seeing my keyboard as I type this so bear with me. I have been using progressives for years and they took some getting used to. The biggest problem I have now is tying knots.

I'm with Dodge Guy. The bigger the reel, the bigger the spool. The bigger the spool, the longer the casts and better drag system. The weight difference between a 2500 and a 4000 is often only about an ounce. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. If weight is an issue, stay with the 2500.

Boy, that name brings back memories. I have a few bags that I keep just for nostalgia. Used them for many years.

I like both the Bobby's Perfect and the River2Sea. Haven't tried the Phat Frog but can't wait. I'm always a bit skeptical when someone says something outfished something else 3-1 or 4-1. If one was working that good, did you put the one back on that was not so hot just for laughs and to try to not catch fish? I usually switch when a bait isn't working. Now if a buddy was using one and you were using something else and doing better, that might make sense. But still, if I saw my buddy catch 3 to my one, I would switch pretty quickly. I think with frogs, if you put any frog in the right place at the right time, it's gonna get bit. It's about hooking and catching percentage. I think snagproof give you the best hooking percentage as they are a tad softer, but the R2S does walk the frog a bit better.

Buck Perry is the man! I started fishing with my dad on a small natural lake and we did okay pounding the banks. Then one day I saw something that changed my life. A boat was trolling and every 5 minutes he would pull in a bass or pike, all good size. I happened to chat with him at the ramp and he had a limit of 5lb+ bass and 34-38" northerns. (No catch and release back then). He was a devout spoonplugger. He gave me the little booklet that is still available today and a spoonplugger was born. I could not find any spoonplugs in the area, but used Bombers, Waterdogs, Hellbenders and later Bagley DB3's. My local tackle shop eventually started stocking Spoonplugs and I had my first run-in with the bait monkey. I still troll big spoonpugs for Musky, but not for bass too much anymore. With todays deep-diving crankbaits and jigs, worms, carolina rigs etc, I find it more fun to cast for them. I still like to fish the shallow slop and cover like docks, laydowns etc, but for consistency, stay deeper.

Just watched it. Man I want to go down there. Great fish fish on great baits. Gotta get some Hack Attack jigs!

3/8 oz for most situations, 1/2 oz for burning or a little deeper and 1 oz for slow rolling or otherwise fishing deep. Occasionally 1/4 oz for very shallow medium retrieves over weeds.

I have 2 of the older gold colored Energy's and they still work fine as heavy bait outfits. I can cast a 5/8 oz frog a mile on 50lb. braid. Yeah, its not the smoothest but it's comfortable and works.

Did you possibly forget to install a washer or 2? Oil won't do the drag any harm if you clean it off, but you still should be able to crank it down and get some resistence.

I still have the first baitcaster I ever bought- a Daiwa Procaster SM2A. Still works like new after 30 some years.

No knot is foolproof, but the Double Palomar is pretty close and easy to tie. A must with braid.

I agree. Tiki Sticks fall the slowest. Senkos the fastest with the most shimmy. Dingers somewhere in between. All great baits.

Ice fishing definitely helps. So does feeding the Bait Monkey. I've been busy checking out colleges with my son who thinks he's going to be a major league catcher. Would be nice then he could support me.
