Dragging vs. Slow Lift and Drop for Winter and Early Spring Jig Fishing?
Lots 'Good Stuff' in this one ~ For me Dragging vs. Slow Lift and Drop for Winter and Early Spring Jig Fishing is pretty much a bit of just about everything mentioned in these previous replies. Something I'll add and have mentioned before, revolves around my mind set during the presentation. I prefer to believe that a big Old Bass is the master of her domain and is keenly aware of everything in it, including my bait. So when I'm Not looking to illicit a 'reaction' type strike, I like to try and sneak my bait back to the boat WITHOUT being detected. Meaning, I'm doing very little with the bait that would be seen as attempting to draw attention to it. (sort of like what most everything a bass eats does all day). It's usually a slow deal which works well in the cooler water we're discussing here. However can also be totally good just about anytime. btw - I do the same thing with a vibrating jig early season. Coping with chronic heart ache ~
Lynn's a real life warrior who possess strength & courage well beyond anything I could ever muster. She continues to receive routine infusions and Thursday we went to an appointment at one of her cardiologists. This was to access her current status. They ran remote diagnostics on her pacemaker, which is actually pretty wild. The testing showed that it's performing as needed and the battery life is sitting at 6 years. It's an out patient procedure to replace it, which is good I guess. We got her an E-Trike a year or so ago, so she could still get out & about with our dogs. Unfortunately, with her super low BP and associated balance challenges, this is no longer an option. So on the way home we talked about selling it. There were tears. We are both routinely pretty stressed before, during & especially after any & all of these appointments. This one was no different. Moving forward we'll continue to take it as it comes. Lynn's having her 50th birthday in a few days and for as long and as hard as she's been battling this deal, that's pretty close to a miracle. We'll have a mild but meaningful celebration, just the two of us. Every Day's a gift. A-Jay

Do Any of You Fish Exclusively for One Type of Bass?
My bass fishing efforts locally are almost always focused on Smallmouth. I don't always do so good. I'll use a passport to get my LMB fix. A-Jay

are you retired? do you fish ALL the time?
I completed my obligation and separated from the service in 2007 at 47 years old. My version of this deal is, I'm not 'retired' from anything. I still have a life to lead. Really helps to take steps to ensure I'm in decent enough shape to do that. That process will eventually stop - but I won't know it. As for fishing more or less, Prior to moving to Michigan in 2007, I lived within 2 miles of the Atlantic Ocean my entire life and eventually worked on it for almost 30 years. Fished quite a bit, more than I do now in fact. But I always felt like I was 'squeezing it in'. Where as now, and for the last 15 plus years, I've been on A-Jay time and it's The Best. Perhaps my favorite aspect of 'not working'. I loved being a part of the US Coast Guard and am proud to have served. But it's not who I am, it's what I did. I am so much more. btw - IMO relatively speaking 'work' was easy, what happens next, requires quite a bit more. YMMV A-Jay

Bait Porn
The long hard water season here sees me devoting an entire BR photo album to this deal. One of the more recent additions has been a few Lake Menderchuck specific flavored blade baits. https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/gallery/album/2103-a-jays-baits/ A-Jay

How accurate are you estimating a fishes weight ?
Hold the bass very close to a wide angle / fish eye lens. Or carry a small action figure with you. A-Jay

What is your most productive technique right now?
@ATA Thank you very much for the empathy & the very generous offer. I really appreciate them both. However in just a couple of weeks, if things go even remotely as planned, all will be right in my world. (fishing wise). ? A-Jay

Working to Stay Lean ~
Just realized that this thread has over 40K views in five years ~ Easily the most clicked on deal I've posted here since joining BR in 2008. Interesting that it's not fishing related. Either way, Thanks for the support. A-Jay
