  1. Which do you prefer and why? I have both and like both, not sure what the benefits are. Seems like companies charge a little more for it but it doesn't really do anything.
  2. 4" coffee tube by Strike King this last year i had my best year and used these almost excusively for smallies, any color seemed to drive them crazy, and if I got hungry they taste pretty good
  3. my mistake I was looking at the compre musky rods.
  4. Check out this rod at Reeds comes with a over the counter lifetime warranty and the 76H would work perfect for what you want. http://www.reedssports.com/Category/main.taf?cat=1790 Shimano Clarus 69.99
  5. Great to have you on here. Best fishing forum anywhere 8-)
  6. Shipping with insurance was $21, but I insured 2 rods ($620 worth) insurance for $400 was $5.50 and $600 was $7.50 so for the extra $2 I thought I better get insurance for the replacement value not what I paid.
  7. I got the situation resolved. I called St. Croix today and spoke with Andy and explained what happened, he said to send the 2 rods back and they would upgrade me to the current model of the legend elite for no charge. He did inform me that they did make the LE rods like that for a couple years and have had more than one person mention it. So all in all I am very satisfied. I hope the new rods are as Flechero puts it PRETTY as the old model--HAHAHAHAHA ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D And that is why you buy a St. Croix or G-Loomis rod, they are the BEST, and you get what you pay for. Flechero--I didn't pay $300 for them, I got them at Reed's for $180 on sale, and you can hardly buy a Shimano Crucial for that kinda money!
  8. like I said I purchased a ec68mxf and a es66mf form Reeds who right now has awesome prices on them. What I didn't find out until they arrived was the es66mf doesn't have the reel seat that is in the picture. Legend elites have a brown pearl blank and reel seat to match, mine showed up with the brown blank but the grip was just like any other fuji seat color kinda graphite gray. The ec68mxf is fine, but I am very disappoited about the es66mf. When I called Reeds they said that is how they came from St. Croix and said I could return it for a refund. Am I nuts or would you be a little bummed out also. I don't know, when you by a top of the line rod you don't expect the factory to cheap out on the finishing touches, do you? I haven't decided if I am going to keep it or return it. I am going to call St. Croix tomorrow and see what options they may have. I know they have a exchange program so I might see how much it would be to upgrade to the 2009 model. What would you do?
  9. Hey at least if it breaks it is backed by the best warranty you could ask for. You don't have to send it in like loomis or croix. Just take it to a pro shop and they will swap it out.
  10. Sweet! That is a great set up, especially for your first BC. I just started using a BC last year and am hooked. I have 5 now and I know what you mean I don't even want to pick up my spinning set ups. Although there is stuff you can do with spinning tackle that just doesn't work as well with a BC. Congrats man! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I wish it was 14 deg here so I could get the mail. It is -12 in the sun. But I have the biggest fishing jones so hopefully it warms up soon. Yeah right.
  11. I want one but I wish they had the 5:0:1 in a lefty
  12. citica all the way, I bought 2 for my first baitcasters and they are awesome. I am so glad I spend a little more and went the GOOD route, I still want a chrono 50mg though
  13. Just wondering if anybody has tried this and what they think
  14. my figures don't include insurance as I never use unless the buyer pays for it.
  15. with the rods I shipped the other day the tube was 86" long (just over 7ft) and it weighed @ 5lbs and it went from Michigan to california for @$14 priority mail
  16. ejtaylor just be sure to tell them priority mail and it will be cheaper and it is handled by hand not machine.
  17. wow I have had no problems with them and have used them 3 or 4 times. I always make sure to ship a rod in PVC pipe not cardboard and wrap with bubble wrap on the inside for protection. So do you guys just pay the $25 to use ups or FedEx?
  18. does it track as sweet as it looks? Awesome paintjob
  19. I just shipped 2 rods yesterday and the USPS tries to screw you if you don't know any better. I told the clerk I wanted the cheapest option and it came in at $27, that sounded hight to me considering the shipping tube I used came to me from Oregon for $12. So I said something to the clerk and he checked the price using "Priority Mail" and it came in at $15. So when shipping a rod USPS always ask for "Priority Mail". Someone might have already covered this but I don't want anyone to give away their hard earned money if they don't have to.
  20. dude check out www.reedssports.com you can get st. croix rods cheap right now I just bought 2 legend elite (top of the line st croix rods) for $160 and $172 depending on model and they normally go for up to $345, they also have all the other St. Croix rods 20% off. check it out is is a great deal they are just a little picked over, but they probably have what you are looking for.
  21. thanks RoseAngler i was going to get an avid but instead got a legend elite, actually I got 2 for the price that 1 would nomally cost ($370), now all I need is a cranking rod, but my AC66mf I think will do the trick for this year I just blew my whole rod/reel/goodies budget in one swoop, but I never imagined owning such a great rod. This is exactly why I come on this forum you guys all rock!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  22. thanks RW I think I will go with the ec68mxf, and keep my ac66mf for trebels and topwater, that will give me a pretty complete arsenal, except for a swimbait rod, which in Mich we don't use a lot, and a dedicated crankin stick my lineup would look like this AC66mf- trbels and and spinnierbaits EC68MXF- plastics MBR783- jigs, heavier plastics, 66mlf crucial- small jigs, weightless stuff, dropshot, I will probably use this for guests and walleye jiggin ES66mf-pretty much anyhting-I have a hunch this will become my money rod along with the EC68mxf
  23. OK I am already to place my order es66mf and ec66mf or ec68mxf which casting rod should I go with. Is there that much of a difference in the 2 inches and the fast vs. Xfast
  24. yeah great article. My dad broke the tip off my crucial last year and he doesn't fish a lot but I know he set the hook way to hard for braid and snapped the tip off which is understandable. I think you need to remember that a rod is a tool and that tool is to get fish to the boat not in the boat and it is to fight the fish not horse the fish.
