Is a more sensitive rod really necessary?
I don't think anybody in their right mind would say to go out and buy a $400 glx to use for crankbaits. You need to take into consideration what you will use the rod for. A rod used for plastics or jigs yeah you want to most sensitive rod you can "afford" for some that may mean a GLX and for others that may mean a crucial. Is the GLX better? Of course, but if you can't afford it don't even waste your time looking. It is like buying a car, of course you would love to buy the benz but the chevy is still a great car, and if you can afford the chevy but not the benz then don't waste your time. IT IS ALL PERSPECTIVE!!!!

Recommend me a first baitcaster
you don't need anything fancier than a citica whether it is a D or E they are great reels to start with. I bought 2, 2 years ago when first leaning to use a baitcaster and they are very easy to tune and cast without backlashes. If you like the citicas then you can go ahead and spend the reel money on a chronarch, revo, zillion or some other sexy reel, but at first stick to the easy ones. I would say listen to RW he will not steer you wrong.

Shimano Voltaeus Rods
My brother-in-law just got one and we messed around with it on sat. Yeah you are right it is basically a nicer uglystick. For the money it is a very nice rod. My problem with it is it still is quit heavy, not as heavy as a ugly stick but you can tell it has more than just graphite in the blank.

Tried dropshotting from shore today, yeah doesn't work so good.
I tried dropshotting from shore today at a pond by my house. It doesn't work. I couldn't keep my bait from sinking to the bottom. I am fairly new to dropshotting but my guess is I need to keep the line tight, so from the bank you don't really have a good angle to do it. Anyone else try this. I may try usung a floating bait next time. I was very bummed b/c I was trying out my new legend tournament DS rod.

What size DS hook
I am fairly new to dropshotting and am wondering what size hooks to use I should use. I have been using #2 DS hooks, but is there a size that would be better? Has anyone tried the "standout" hooks?

Difference btwn St. Croix AVC and AC rods
my mistake IPC not ART the ART is on the LT models and up. I have a both the ac in a casting rod and the avc in a spinning rod and I can't tell the difference The AC I have is the 66mf casting and I love it. It can do just about anything you ask, within reason of course. It is a great all-around rod. If you keep you eyes out you should be able to find 1 for around $90-$120.

Difference btwn St. Croix AVC and AC rods
I believe the AC is the model before they developed the ART technology. Other than that I think they are the same. If you go on ST. Croixs website it explains what the ART is.

Plastic on cork section?
does the u-40 cork sealer darken the cork like other store bought sealers, or does it leave it looking the same as it did when it was unsealed?

Spinning rod recommendation needed
I would take advantage of the trade in program I have done it 2 times and it is a great program.

what makes a good drop shot rod
Sounds like a perfect rod for DS to me I have a Avid 68mxf that I use and I love it. I have heard that carrots can be a little stiff, but that is probably the rod you would want. For about the same money you have in that you could look at an avid, I love mine, but I am sure CS are nice rods too.

Shimano Stradic or Quantum Catalyst
If you are going to compare a quantum reel with the stradic it has to be the energy. Those 2 reels are very much on the same level, after that it is all personal preference.

spinning reel - what pound line?
I think I would go with 10-15 lb braid of some kind.

G-Loomis reduced prices. (not joking this time)
go to www.ohya.com and login: customer password: preferred and you can get GLX's in the $270- $280 range. They also have some IMX and others at awesome prices.

Daiwa Advantage HSTA , Quantum Energy 2009 , Daiwa Viento
I just bought my first daiwa reel this spring and all I can say is now I have three. They just seem head and shoulders above the rest in tolerances, quality, and smoothness. I think I would go with the HSTA.

Quantum Energy spinning reels
I am considering getting a energy pti-A (last years model) cabelas has them on closeout right now. I have always used shimano in the past. How do the sizes compare from 1 to the other. Is the energy 30 about the same as the shimano 3000? Cabelas has them for $90 with free shipping, is there anywhere selling them cheaper? I know why not just stick with shimano? Well, why not try something different? Just thought I would branch out and try something else. At that price I think it is worth a shot.

Abu C3, C4, or D6?
I prefer the 5600 series, it has more line capacity than you will ever need. I have several c3's and c4's and I prefer the c4's they are smoother and just feel better, just my personal preference. They are both awesome reels that don't cost a lot of $.

Loomis shakeyhead vs Loomis Drop shot rods
I already read the TT reviews that is why I am asking the question...TT didn't really answer it. It osunds like they are in love with the DSR820GLX, but I may have to wait a little lonfer to justify that purchase. It sounds like either would be fine for both apps. so maybe I will just keep my eye out for 1 at a good price and let that help me decide.

Loomis shakeyhead vs Loomis Drop shot rods
At some point this year I would like to get a dedicated rod for dropshotting and shakyheads. Does anyone have both of these? I was looking at the dsr820 and the shakyhead rod that has comparable line and lure ratings. I am just wondering if there are any major differences in the actions and powers of these rods. Are the tips similar? I have fished a dsr820 and I loved it, but the shakeyhead is $20-$30 cheaper. Just wondering what one would be better for both applications.

MBR844GLX vs. MBR784GLX
other than 6 inches what is the difference in the way they fish? I am going to get 1 or the other but can't decide. I will be using it for jigs, worms, and some light swimbaits like money minnows and such. any info would be helpful considering I have to order whichever one I decide on and have never played around with either.
